I'm losing my sanity
« on: July 03, 2008, 07:40:05 AM »
Today I went to a job interview and they gave me a long test consisting of 91 questions. Everything was fine until I saw the last one.

The question says "Divide each shape into two identical pieces". So, these are 2 different shapes, and each one should be divided into 2 identical pieces, which really looks... undoable. I spent 30 minutes trying to figure it out then I gave up and wrote "This riddle is unsolvable" and went home pissed off. I memorized the shapes so I can see if anybody else could do it.

HELP ME. SOLVE IT :(

if you fold over the second portion of the triangle, you can neatly divide it in half

same with the rectangle, as the bit which juts out will neatly cover the "cut out" section in the upper left.

Umm no. The divided parts should be identical, so if we fold the triangle there's gonna be that second (small) triangle left off in of the sides.

Even with the rectangle, they must be 'identical' not 'to cover each other'. I'm not sure if you understand my point :(

that small portion is the one you fold over, then you can divide it.

the fold is the first part.  fold, then bisect

Yeah, the 'folding' thing is not part of the constraints as you've presented them to us.  Was there anything else other than 'Divide each shape into two identical pieces' in the instructions? Otherwise I'm thinking printing error.

^ It's as I wrote exactly. We were 5 in the room, and one of us told the instructor that 'these are really hard', and  he replied 'then stop complaining and let the others do their job' :lol

I asked everybody after the exam and they all failed to do the drawings. I'm really eager to know the answer, if they called me back I'm gonna ask for it.

Do you HAVE to divide them by drawing a straight line?

Otherwise for the second one:

Rebiack, I think you can do multiple lines (not sure but everybody in the room told me that he did). You're the man :o
