The Bore Anime & Manga Thread
« on: July 03, 2008, 10:50:48 PM »
The last thread was too old for its own good. I am currently watching:

Slayers Revolution
Sure, only the raw is on the net so far, but what I watched was awesome. BUDGET! A Slayers series with BUDGET and entirely faithful to the previous series. It should be considering the same people are behind it.

Project Blue Earth SOS
An OVA about ALIENS INVADING THE PLANET EARTH. I really love the look of this show, and the plot has that same charm of all those old japanese monster movies. No one can say 'G-Reactor' like the japanese. The plots a bit predictable, and the periods of characterization dont quite fit in a show with so much high adventure. At 6 episodes long its been a fun ride. I should have this finished tonight.

Solty Rei
A good, but 'safe' show. There's a couple bait n switch plot points, but most of the episodes are the types of things we've seen in most anime. Beinga Gonzo effort the production values are high and at its very worst, its 'another super powered robot girl' anime. I wish they'd turn down the music; there are times I can't even hear what they're sayin!

Persona Trinity Soul
Just started watching this today, and its pretty awesome. I enjoyed Disgaea's anime, so I figured I would give this one a chance. Quality animation and an interesting story.

I'm still watching Macross Frontier. Even though some episodes are just "WTF, why?  :-\" like the episode where the squirrel stole Sheryl's panties and the one where they were making a movie, there's still enough good bits in there to keep me interested. Like when they discovered

I dunno, they didn't really make it clear at the end of the episode. They were just like "*gasp* MACROSS!?" at the end of the episode, then it showed this:

I found out my sister actually bought all of Slayers  :hyper, so I'm watching the first season now. Fun stuff so far, I like Lina and Gourry a lot.

Also going to watch Revolution when it gets subbed cause I like new stuff.

Haven't really been watching much anime though, dunno why.

Code Geass R2

+ Mecha Action
+ Interesting story involving world domination, cults and supernatural mind powers
+ Immortal green haired bitches that love pizza
+ Purple outfits and superfluous hand gestures for some added style
+ Doesn't take itself too seriously 99% of the time
+ Isn't afraid to show people get blown up,crushed by rubble, or shot up, killing themselves or others.

It's a character quirk not uncommon in Japanese anime. As best I can tell, it gives off a more "catty" appearance.

Well Earth SoS was pretty decent. The ending felt kinda slapped together and a lot of events didnt have time to provide the impact as intended. All in all its a fun romp with a bunch of silly sci fi radiodrama touches all over the place. The dub isn't bad but the main character has a bad habit of running his words together funny. The show could have used another 6 episodes, partly because it would have been better for it, and partly because I was left wanting more.

I think I will be making another run through the TV and OVA of Guu next:

Have the DVDs for the movies back home, but I downloaded rips.  Also the original OVA series.  What I also found is the original TV series, which never got an English release.  It's crap VHS quality, but watchable.  And it's been fansubbed.  Eat a dick, anime companies.  You want to solve your problem?  Bring shit out for decent prices.  I'm also re-re-re-re-re-re-re-reading Adam Warren's take on the DP.  Loved those comics.

Also it's way past time I watched ALL of Slayers, in honor of the new show.  I only have seen some of the OVAs, the movie, the first TV series, and half of the second.  And I barely remember any of it.

Dirty Pair Flash is good too, but obviously lacking the awesome 80's vibe of the original.

+ Mecha Action

Sons of bitches left that part out this season.  Best stuff seen so far was a battle in progress/ending at the beginning of an ep. :maf

That said, I love watching Lelouch's plans going to shit just to see his awesome "Do Not Want." face.

lulz the chess game from code geass

basically they show an overview of the game, and pieces seemingly teleport when they switch from scene to scene

and the character schneizel purposefully puts his king into check which is... not a legal move

Right now I am not watching through any series.  I am just watching the weekly stuff.  I do have Baccano here that I should really start to watch, but I have been in a weird mood lately where I want to play video games instead of watching anime.

Yeah, I'm surprised that was such a cause of issue for people. As you said, he made an illegal move on purpose if only to see how Zero would react and most likely to personally confirm it was Lelouch under the mask.

Lots of people like it. I dont really watch it because it looks like one of those shows...you know the ones I dont like.

To put a finer point on it, its the passive/aggressive fanservice I dont really wanna have to deal with. All the female characters seem to be put into situations that are there to titillate and I see people react on forums or whatever and it feels kinda dirty.
