Aye I just started playing games on my PC lastnight for the first time.

A nice change of pace from the consoles. This is what I have so far - what else should I get?

I ordered Quake IV and Doom III for my ID fandom....

How does C&C 3 run on MAC?

Im trying to stay away from Worlds of Warcraft (for as long as I can anyway...)

Yup. I couldn't believe that even basic emulators run better on Windows than the OSX versions do. It's sad. You don't get Macs for gaming.

I dont need like 5,000 games. I got too many console titles as it is.

Im just wondering whats worth playing that isnt on consoles - I guess I can finally try Neverwinter nights.

The titles I have are already very satisfying.

What kind of Mac do you have? Also keep in mind that some Mac games don't have the same kind of support that their PC counterparts do- Yet another reason to use Boot Camp.

What kind of Mac do you have? Also keep in mind that some Mac games don't have the same kind of support that their PC counterparts do- Yet another reason to use Boot Camp.

I have a G5 2 ghz machine with a 20inch CD monitor on it...and a 20" intel imac core 2 duo 2.16 ghz

2 GB RAM on the G5 1 GB RAM on the imac.

I also have a G4 powerbook and a macbook air but not really interested in installing games on those.

Isn't this the same argument that Nintendo fans have used since the N64 days? "I don't like having too many games to play anyway"

I dont understand why anyone thinks I am makin an argument here. I am saying - "hey - I just figured out I could have some fun playing a few titles I fancy on the mac, if you happen to have played any mac games you can recommend, post it here"

Homeworld 2? I like what I see inscreenshots - but im no sure I can do with another RTS for now.

I also dont game enough onthe mac to want any title I cant just play with a kbd and mouse. No gamepads or sim-sticks please.

Such as? MAME is fuckawesome on the Mac anyway. And if you can't find something to enjoy on MAME, then you probably won't find much elsewhere.

MAME is what I was talking about! Emulation in general isn't as widely supported on the Mac; there's just better stuff on Windows. It sucked coming back to OSX after four years and finding nothing had changed. $:-\$ On the same MacBook, if I run say, Street Fighter III through MAME, it's framey and not so smooth. Even some of the Neo-Geo games I've tried aren't quite as smooth. If I load up boot camp and go to Windows, the CPS3 emulator will run SF3 full-screen with at a silky-smooth 60fps. And then I don't even think there's a Sega CD emulator (AT ALL) or a good PC Engine CD emulator on OSX.

It's a disappointment, but only a minor one, because if I want to do some gaming there's boot camp, so it doesn't matter. And like you, I didn't get a Mac for gaming. I prefer consoles for my gaming experience; also had a gaming class laptop before and that sucked. If I was to get into PC gaming, I'd get a desktop no question.

Looks like the next big games for OS X are Diablo III and Starcraft II.

I played Homeworld 2 demo - it looks good but its nothing special - I like the fact that its in 3D space.

im scared of MMO because I have a girlfriend - I still have nightmares about the 8-10 hour shifts I would spend playing FFXI.

I have only payed the Civ Revo demo for PS3.

I will take a look as my other mates highly recommend it.

I played the Doom 3 demo since my retail copy is on its way along with Quake IV mac.

Holy hell it looks MUCH better than the old XBOX edition of Doom3 I had. Little details like glowing LEDs in the dark in the distance are very immersive feeling.

In the demo the framerate gets kinda fukky when yer shooting enemies.

I must say - this little taste of PC gaming on the mac has me tempted to buy a windows/intel machine just for PC gaming.

Prole was right - when yer a kid, siting on the couch is cool, when yer a grown man, you wanna be in the comfy desk chair in front of the 20 inch screen playing daddy's games.

PS3 has hardly been touched since the wekend...

It's love it or hate it. In my experience, more on the hate side than the love side. If you have to experience business bureaucracy as part of your job, chances are you won't want to deal with more in a game.

Got my OS X Doom 3 and Quake IV today.

Doom 3 runs great at a decent resolution and high graphics setting...no more slowdown or jittery animations - its pretty fucking smoothe. It has some fucking vsynch tearing issues tho on my imac. I have yet to try it on the Power PC G5 with the GeForce.

Im wondering if the demo didnt run well because there was no intel mac update for it. The final game has a universal binary update.

Great game - glad I have it and its 200X better looking than my old XBOX edition.

Quake 4 performs great too (I do have the 'preferred' hardware config for these games). Love the game - never had it looking as god on my X360.

Neither my imac or my G5 tower can apparently run Quake Wars at max settings. It doesn't run at all on power PC and I do not have fast enough core 2 duo, or RAM requirements.

Anyone ever buy a $2,000 video card so they can run Quake / Doom with 500 MB VRAM(OSX or Windows)? and is it really worth seeing 500 MB of textures?

I also downloaded this GLDoom exe that uses the classic Doom or Doom II wad files and displays them with cleaned up GFX, FX and the ability to aim up/down ala quake. It looks nice and plays great for Doom/Doom2.
