J-Bores: Tokyo Apaato Pricin'
« on: July 07, 2008, 02:03:16 AM »
So it looks more and more likely like I'll be moving to Tokyo soon.  Just wondering what the rent might be on a 2LDK or 3LDK size apartment.  Is it pretty much nuts to even think about living in the city?  My rent now for a 2LDK is 65,000 yen a month including a parking space.  I take it I won't need a car in the big city though.

Is there a good site to look for apartments on?

Wow, thanks guys!   :o :)

I don't have a job yet, but all the places I've applied to are in Tokyo, so it seems inevitable.  One company has already contacted me and is very interested, and I get the feeling it's going to be them.  I think they are in Tachikawa.

Not sure about the car thing; being in Tokyo I guess I wouldn't really need one, although I'm going to miss that freedom!  I'm thinking 3LDK might be too much money; maybe 2LDK will have to do.  I'd really like to have a place with a kitchen, living room, bedroom, and one more room for me to put all my gaming crap in.  Small is okay.  I guess anywhere from 30 minutes to 45 minutes out would be fine.  I know the further out you live, the quieter and cheaper it can be.  Would prefer to find a newer place if possible.

I'm not asking you guys to look for me of course, just trying to get a sense of how it is to live in Tokyo versus out here.  My current place has room size of 8 tatami mats.  Not sure about meters...

Holy shit NO.  Even the closet-sized place I lived in for a month as a student a few years back was better than what was shown on the "sp0rsk show."  I think he said he got a better place though.  Marvelharvey's place was  :o.  We should do Evilbore cribs!

oh, you'd need a car if you were going to live in Tachikawa and not go insane. It's about as far from Tokyo as you can get and still call it Tokyo. I've been there a few times and it's either car or bus or get very good at skateboarding.

:lol So it's pretty much like where I am now.  About far out is it from places like Shibuya and Shinjuku by train?

Haha, I'd still be close enough to come into Tokyo though, right?  I'm used to driving more than an hour to go to friends' place, so an hour train ride is nothing!  But I'm not sure if it's Tachikawa.  It could be in one of several places.  I get the feeling they are all in Saitama though (another listing is for Omiya).  If this also means a 3LDK is more affordable, then awesome!

Parking in Tokyo must be insane, too.  Come to think of it, I have never even seen a parking garage in all the times I've gone there...

if you can live without a car and you can stretch up to around 10k a month, then you should be okay.
I just found a place on JJ-Navi in Sakurajousui for 10k a month, 2LDK , 60 sq m, close to the station. That would be good for commuting as it's basically on a direct line to Shinjuku, or you can switch at Maedaimae for Shibuya.

It takes me about 25 mins to get to work when i stay at the inlaws, it's close to fun places like Shimokitazawa, has a few super markets, can reach Aki quickly, can go to Kichijouji, nice and convenient.

But yeah, i wouldn't consider anywhere until you know the rough area you'll be.

1 tatami (roughly) = 90 x 180 - so about 1.6ms2

Nice, thanks!  100,000 a month is probably doable since there's going to be two of us paying the rent, but of course cheaper would be nicer!  Do you guys typically just take the train everywhere?  Do you even own bicycles?  And I take it buying furniture and such is all delivery-based...

cool - then i think you have some options.
I was actually surprised at the Sakurajousui place - i'd live there in a heartbeat (the area i mean).

I'll definitely keep it in mind!  If it's close enough to wherever work is, sounds good.

This is my current place:

Wondering why it says rent is 4.7man a month though.  Why have I been paying 6man?  Hmm...

Doesn't "sick and twisted yet disturbingly hilarious" fit just about any Japanese movie?

nah.  there HAVE to be boring dramas about chicks with cervical cancer whose father turns out to be gay while their estranged brother returns because he's indebted to his sister for taking care of him when he was afflicted with polio.
