Yeah I cant imagine how many updates mine requires. I have no reason to take it online. My Blurays and PS2 games play fine.

I think it always updates to the most recent, so yeah only 1 update.  But still, it's a fucking pain in the ass to have to download it, then install it.  Takes the impulse shopper out of me.

I don't know if it is new to 2.40 or not, but you can set your PS3 to auto shut off now after it downloads and installs.  At least when I downloaded 2.41 it had that option.  One step closer to functionality is a good thing.

Even if it doesn't, there will always be backwards compatibility! Even then I don't think PS1 ones will be properly upscaled.  Still another 8 years to find out.

I wish it would auto turn on and download it rather than auto turn-off.  But hey, at least it's progress.  PS4 should be amazing

PS3 really does need a stand-by mode.  For this kind of stuff and downloads.  Ideally what it would do is it would automatically turn on every night or other night to check if there is firmware, but if there isn't it will shut down.  Even something like holding down the button switch for 10 seconds to auto download and install without having to switch video source on the TV or touch the controller would be great.

Isn't the new 1942 game supposed to suck ass?  It seems like it was made by a team that clearly didn't understand what makes a shooter good, like with Omega 5 (although that game turned out to be pretty decent).
