It certainly has an assload of current celebrities making up the cast. The "Bonnie and Clyde" premise look interesting too. There's also Christopher Walken which will make me watch it anyways.

I thought it was great. Gary Oldman as the pimp Drexl kicks so much ass.

Gary Oldman was pretty much the only interesting person in it

I think it has Tarantino's best writing. Unfortunately, it has one extremely racist scene that doesn't really fly today in mixed company. That's the main flaw. You'll know the scene when you see it. You just have to think of the dialogue in that scene as representing the characters, not Tarantino himself.

It's also very much for the better that Tony Scott directed it instead of Tarantino. Scott presented the story as a straight-forward narrative with a good ending that delivers on what came before. Tarantino originally wanted to present the story with a fragmented time-line like most of his other films. But having read the original script, it works much, much better as a linear narrative. His fragmented time-line thing works well in Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill and other films, but it wouldn't have worked that well with this material.

Definitely see it. It's an excellent film. I think it's better than any of his other stuff besides Pulp Fiction.

One of the few film scenes that makes me uncomfortable. Just not a fan of it at all.

The movie is better on the second viewing imo, at which point it struck me almost like a parody of romantic films.

especially the scene after he kills Drexel and Alabama starts crying before admitting it's "so romantic"

Hopper talks about how Walken's family came from distinguished black fellows, and therefore he is part distinguished black fellow as well.

True Romance is pretty awesome.

As far as other Tarantino-written flicks done by other directors, I also have a sizable boner for Natural Born Killers.  But we've been over that before.  It's on Blu Ray now, though.

Its pretty good - QT writing back before he was in love with being, well, QT.

This is the main reason I want to watch it. I love 90's Quentin writing.

Thanks to everyone who responded, I'll probably rent this, Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction at some point.

Like all QT films, there are scenes and dialog that are absolutely brilliant .. then there's the rest of the movie which is eye-rolling and obnoxious.

Thought this movie was fucking awesome, the Sicilians = negroes scene had me ROFL (I'm actually Northern Italian, although my now g/f is Sicilian). One of my favorite songs of all time (Solar Stone - Solarcoaster) samples the movie too.

Shake has a copy of the script, his first thoughts:

one/third of the way in, i'll say this--it's pretty far from what i expected, though idk if i'd really call it great or anything. also qt really needs an editor or something, the grammar/spelling errors etc. make this look like it was written by a five year old.
