My mom loved Juno wtf
« on: July 13, 2008, 10:31:33 PM »
7/10 total

The movie would have been better if Dwight got her pregnant instead of whatshisface. Instead Dwight gets 2 minutes and steals the movie. Everything else is downhill!

but yea, my mom cried at the end and loved it. It's an ok movie but it seemed really forced in terms of the dialogue/writing. I'm not saying it was bad but by the end I was felt...nothing. The only scene that really stuck out to me was the one where Juno's mom verbally lambasts the ultrasound tech. I thought that was a great, honest scene of a mom defending her daughter, at that point forgetting the disappointment over the pregnancy and just putting family first.

Mom: Isn't this the movie that glorifies teen pregnancy? There's nothing funny about that, Hollywood goes too far sometimes. That girl is just a baby, and she's having a baby. When I was 16 I was smoking in my room, using my doll plates as ash trays!

post-Juno

Mom: It was kid stuff but that's how they talk. This was a well written movie don't you think. I see Junos walking around all the time but I never payed attention until now *cries*

In fact, instead of a love triangle among juno/michael bluth/george michael bluth the movie would have been better with a love rectangle among juno/michael buth/george michael bluth/dwight

Juno sucked.  I really dislike Ellen Page and would probably say that in her face if I ever met her.  Then I will go on to tell her how she is super creepy and that she should stop appearing in films.  Then I will ask her what it was like to work with such great talent like Michael Cera.

Well yea, a bit of an overstatement. But honestly that was one of the better scenes in the movie imo, just about everything else left me rolling my eyes. Yea Dwight's lines were pretty laughable but presented them well enough to get me interested

the movie itself gave me that feeling.

For a movie that tries to go toward the comedic side of what is ultimately a humiliating and life changing event, I find it somewhat well done in that view. I don't think it was meant to be much deeper.

i'm going to watch that romanian abortion flick to atone for watching juno.

4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days is a great movie. Much like Nobody Knows, I have no desire to ever watch it again, but it's extremely well done and I'm glad I saw it.

And for the record, I like Juno.

it was just raw hamurger.  like a claw hammer beaten vagina, to use your imagery.

The title clearly implies that there was going to be a bunch of US soldiers murdering babies on top of a giant hamburger.  I thought maybe it would be like, one of those giant Mayor McCheese sculptures you see in some McDonald's Playlands.  My disappointment was nearly palpable.

The only scene that really stuck out to me was the one where Juno's mom verbally lambasts the ultrasound tech. I thought that was a great, honest scene of a mom defending her daughter, at that point forgetting the disappointment over the pregnancy and just putting family first.

i hated this scene.  it glorifies being an irrational bitch.

I remember rollin' my eyes at that scene. The ultrasound technician simply relates how she has seen many single teenage mothers, unfit to be parents, and believes it's a good thing that Juno is giving up her baby for adoption. The three women--Juno, her mother, and her friend--each reply how the couple who adopts might end up being bad parents. Well, yeah. That's like the technician saying that drunk driving is bad only for three idiots to reply that sober people get in accidents all the time too.

you're a fucking taco.

And I'd be pretty pissed if some random bitch passed judgement on my daughter or myself.  You guys conveniently left out the fact that after she says she's giving it up for adoption the technician says "thank goodness for that" or some shit.  That's passing judgement on a situation she knows nothing about.

I think she would know what was better in that situation since it was her job and probably has seen this situation turn out sour many times before.  Only thing that happened in that scene is the mother was a bitch and Juno was still a dumb teen who got knocked up because she was too fucking stupid to use a condom.

ultrasound technicians are really that involved after the birth?  and she knows enough about juno and her family to pass judgement on what they're capable of?

Juno realizes that she shouldn't raise a child. By giving the child up for adoption, she's implicitly agreeing with the technician: that teenage girls shouldn't be mothers. Neither Juno nor the technician need to be omniscient and know whether Juno herself would make a bad parent. All they need to know is that uneducated teenagers girls shouldn't have kids. And if they do, they'd generally be doing the children a favor by giving them up for adoption.

Yes, technicians should keep their personal opinions to themselves. (I'm sure they do, except in contrived movies.) However Juno and her mother still acted irrationally. If I was a father and my daughter was in Juno's situation, I would have said "thank goodness is a mother-fucking understatemendt."
