I opened my freezer, as I'm in the final twenty-four hours of my stay here at the apartment and cleaning out food is my last priority. I find a bunch of dead ants in a pile on the corner of the freezer. As if they all tried to escape and failed horribly. I'm surprised they'd brave such temperatures to begin with!

Thankfully, I haven't used my fridge or freezer in weeks. It's pretty barren, save for a frozen chicken, some frozen steak and cold drinks in the fridge (some leftover chinese food and pizza). No ant residue for me!

You would think the ant hill coming out of the pot-roast would have been a sign. But really, how the hell could that many get in and not get out?

you're not home a lot? i don't use the freezer much either but i still open it at least every other day to get ice. how does one not realize ants are in there...

i mean, if they're in the freezer they must be in other places in the kitchen as well

No, I've been working overtime to prepare for inventory - which occured this week. And my apartment makes me generally bummed, so I'm at my friend Chris' house. I've been in it a bit the past few days, but that's just to pack and clean up.

Id flaunt the fact that I too never use my freezer and somehow it remains bug free, but Willco WAS living in the southwest. This is an area I lived in for much of my life, and I vaguely remember the sound of cockroaches skittering around in the dark when I was a kid in Arizona.

I've also eaten a bowl full of raisin bran packed with ants before I noticed on the second pour that the colony was being obliterated.

Yeah, ants in the freezer is a new experience for me, but ants in general is a regular seasonal experience since moving to California. When it's hot, they come marching indoors looking for moisture and food. I remember when I had a cat - I put a bowl of water (and food!) out and there were thousands of them in the bowl when I got home.

Ants can be a pain up in WA as well. We haven't chopped down a lot of wilderness so we pay the price of conservation, and thats living with bugs from time to time.

we get ants during the summer, but it's rarely a big problem. the big ones only invade if food is left out. like last week when my dad (who doesn't know how to clean up) left some watermelon on the kitchen counter all night. WHOOPS. but when stuff is put up/cleaned up no ants get in the house

for some reason mosquitoes have been getting into our basement this summer. i don't know where they're coming from. it's a finished basement too, which makes it really strange.

Mosquitoes are the worst. When I lived in North Dakota I would dread the summers. Ill take ants n roaches over those any day.

yea. seems like the bites don't scratch as much as they did when i was younger but the mere thought disturbs me. if i hear a mosquito and i'm in bed, i'll stay up until i find it and kill it. i once stayed up 2 hours pacing my room looking for one until 5AM on a school night. it's a fucking obsession

luckily these seem to stay in the basement. makes playing games/watching movies/etc tough at times but i think i got rid of them
