Okay, I guess I am going to go to the alderwood mall to KONSUME PRODUKT.  I'm going to hit the camera store and by some shit, too.  They close at like 7.

I might buy some camera shit today.  Kinda bummed that I couldn't get an iPhone :(

Why not?

iPhones are sold out for approximately the next 2 weeks at the two Apple Stores I checked.  The AT&T stores gave similar numbers, but they tried to presell me shit.  Fuck that.

Well, I keep a lot in savings because up until recently I was saving to buy a house.  Maybe I still am, dunno.  Also since I'm freelance I need to keep money on hand to pay taxes and shit.  Also I have intimate experience with being a dirty poor and don't want to do that again.  As long as I have internets and books I'm fairly well entertained.

Blood+ didn't really do much for me, felt way too similar to other such shows [i.e. average person turns out to have super-powers and fights demons]. Blood: The Last Vampire was much better, even though it was only about 40 minutes long.

I didn't get a stimulus check because my dad claimed me as a dependent, which is fine since he's still supporting me. I only got a little over a hundred bucks for my refund, and I don't even know where that went.

The show was alright. I've got the two Blood+ PS2 games, including the one Grasshopper made which is basically proto-No More Heroes.

$20,000 in savings isn't insane.  That's kinda of low.

As with everything in life, it's all relative.

I think it's pretty damn good.  Of course, I'm only 24 years old, 5 months into a career, and had $27k in student debt.  I won't be piling up squat when it comes to savings for 3 years while I pay off my debt.

And considering MAF's consumeristic ways, of course 20k is an insane amount for him.  Money burns a hole in his pocket loooong before he could get anywhere near that figure. :P

I'm a school psychologist, my wife is a senior financial analyst. We make around $120,000/year combined.

On top of our $445,000 mortgage, I have around $45,000 in student loans (4 years of undergrad and 3 years of graduate school) that we're paying off.

I only have one debt left, and I'm in no hurry to pay it off.  Once it's paid off, I have to do something with my credit, be it a house or a car, and I'm simply not anxious to make a major purchase with the way the market is.  If I can swing going back to school full time while still doing work full time, I'll probably quickly kill it off.

I'm alternately good and bad with savings.  I'm as unpredictable as a woman when it comes to saving habits, but once I put money into my savings account, it stays there.

Cool.  Even with that income, it's impressive to be able to manage that mortgage and that much student debt.

I'm basically just treading water at the moment, but I get my first raise in a month (from 44k to 59k), and within two and a half years, I'll really be able to get myself in good shape, making around $83k before overtime.  I just gotta be patient.

Job Security + Canadian government pensions FTW!

In today's currency, if I retired at age 53, with 30 years experience, and retired as a Sergeant, I'd have around a $59k/year pension, indexed to inflation. :rock

If I stuck around for 35 years, and retired when I'm 58, I'd get a 69k/year pension. :rock

Well I guess I just always think about how far it'd get me if I couldn't or didn't want to work anymore... and $20,000 you could maybe make last a year?  If you're stingy as all hell.

You can't just not work anymore.  Fuck, people have trouble retiring at old ages, even if they've planned decently.  A shitty capitalist society like the US requires people being worked to the bone.

:rock

Don't fucking brag.  If you want to marry me I promise we will never have sex and you can sleep with all the chicks you want.  Just free me from the terrible fucking US.  Please.  What do I have to do?  I am begging.

You'd have to sit through BSG with me and pretend to like it.  :-*

Oh, Boogie, you have missed recent developments.  I do like BSG.  I just had to be a smidge more patient.  I've been through the miniseries and season 1.

I don't believe that there has been a thread on these "recent developments."

I am pretty positive I have mentioned it here, although I cannot confirm I made a  thread on it.  The fact remains that you were TOO BUSY to know what was going on in your future wife's life.  I'm willing to forgive you.  I just want to be able to dedicate myself to my writing.

Well, I could try to correct my lack of attentiveness if this forum's search function didn't SUCK ASS, WILLCO.

edit:  As of the end of May, you're still on record shitting on BSG. I think you're just saying what I want to hear to get into my pants.  :P

I've actually been giving real consideration toward trying to become a state trooper or something.  Mostly for the pension.

I've been bugging MAF and Prole with "Is so-and-so-a-cylong questions for the past few weeks, dude.  Dig it or not, the show has got a hook in me, and I have no issues with you liking it.  I will gladly admit I judged the show harshly (heck, even when I tried it the first time, I said the slowness was the issue).  I could live with your love of it, please, just help me out of this country.

You don't have a good memory, then.  I watched Lost S1 right when it came out on DVD, but quit during the boring first episodes of S2.  At least a lot of people seem to agree that the start to S2 was rocky.  Those episodes were just so bad to watch week-to-week that my opinion of the show went through the floor, and since the public at large is distinguished mentally-challenged, its continued popularity was no good indicator of the quality of the show.
