A few years back I had a neighbor who built one from a MOOG kit. Theremins are great when you are the one drinking and screwing around with one.

They really suck when you aren't drinking and you wake up to WWWWEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOEEEEWWWWEE at 5 am.
