It says they're going to compress the 5th pad into a 4 pad track.

Activision doing two charts to accommodate Harmonix's instruments.

Awesome, but I still won't buy it. Now if Rock Band 2 confirms I can use GHWT drums and guitar with it, I will go for that. GHWT drums look amazing.

Agreed, but I already have Rock Band instruments. No more plastic toys for me. I will only buy things that work with what I currently have.

Yep, I was very happy to hear this news. I wonder/hope they will support Rock Band 2 instruments as I still need to add a guitar.

Hopefully it will work both ways, if both companies want to see extended big sales they will support the instruments already out there. If they add new instruments every year or two and take all the old away, people will quickly stop buying.

They should continue making better instruments, but make the instruments so good we want to upgrade, not that we have to.

If GHWT stuff work with RB2, I would sell my old rock band drums and only use the superior ones from Red Octane. They even have pressure sensitive pads since some notes give you more points if you hit them harder than normal. That is so cool.

But a lot of times the game charts beating down the line of pads and they're all drum notes. The yellow note isn't always charted as a cymbal in Rock Band and since it's a dedicated cymbal on the GHWT drums...

Then you get a slightly gimped experience, but at least it isn't as bad as losing an entire note or forcing a dev to make entire new note track.

I wonder what happens with the drums and song maker. People will most likely be making songs for 5 pads. What happens with Rock Band drums in that situation?

Gamespot confirmed that GHWT drums work on Rock Band. They also explain how it goes from 5 to 4 lines if you are using the Rock Band drums. It doesn't really dumb it down too much.
