Shigeru Miyamoto had said in an interview that the only differences between the GameCube and Wii versions of Twilight Princess were technical.[35] The Wii version also displays in a 16:9 (anamorphic widescreen mode) format in 480p, where the GameCube version plays only in 4:3.[36] 480p is possible on early DOL-001 models of the GameCube, using the component-cable or if the GameCube version is played on the Wii.

Why you ask anyway? Surely buying an inferior port is when you already have the superior version is an EB cardinal sin, is it not?

Wait, how drunk were you when you wrote this review?

Quote
Character design and animation is equally well-done, with each sporting reasonably detailed polygonal bodies and a full set of textures. Of special note or the impressive boss characters, which range from the eerily ethereal (Morpha, the almost anthropomorphic amoeba) to the shockingly enormous (King Dodongo, the "infernal dinosaur"; and Bongo Bongo, a gargantuan shadow demon). Sporting rather cinematic and extensive introductory animations, these baddies among baddies are sure to wow you.

After that moment, Nintendo 64 owners have had to play an exhausting game of anticipation, as release dates were pushed back and delays occurred more frequently and spontaneously than pregnancies at an Ozark revival.

:rofl

Quote
And, boy, is it beautiful. Graphically, the game, for the most part, is absolutely captivating, although the trademarked "muddy" textures are still in abundance, thanks to the low resolution necessary to store them on cart and the use of texture filtering. Still, the Nintendo 64's high-quality alpha channel translucency effects and superior graphics horsepower combine to bring us some very captivating environments heavy with atmosphere and and an involving sense of location. From the shimmering reflections on the walls of Zora's Domain to the infernal flames of the Fire Temple to the thick fog of the Forest Shrine, not a single place in all of Hyrule remains indistinct or unmemorable.

http://www.gaming-age.com/reviews/archive/old_reviews/ga2/n64/turok2.shtml

Quote
When it comes to sheer good looks, Turok 2 beats the competition, on virtually every US platform. The textures were concocted with an incredible eye for detail, the models are incredibly well-defined, and the backgrounds look superb. The omnipresent fog from the first Turok has been pushed back, allowing the brilliance of the game's aesthetic design to shine through spectacularly, creating immersive environments and enemies that look (and behave) almost frighteningly real. Slap in the $30 RAM Expansion Pak and you can set the game into one of two high-resolution modes for even greater visual clarity - booya! If you can maintain the integrity of your bladder after firing up this game for the first time, you're more jaded than I am.

Of especial note is the monster animation. While this Turok sports no obviously human enemies prime for a gory demise, it does feature an amazing cast of superbly well-developed and animated beasties, ranging from "dinosoids" to gruesome insects to lumbering, ape-like hulks. My personal favorite is a critter called an "Endtrail," a human/raptor crossbreed that behaves almost like a real human opponent. Iguana's much-vaunted soft-skin animation algorithms make your foes look and behave with frightening realism - you'll see then twitch, breathe, and spasm in very organic style. The bosses look even better - my first encounter with the Mantid's momma left me near-catatonic over the impressive animation. Definitely a looker, for such an ugly sod.

Unfortunately for the nay-sayers, Zelda turned out great. Really great. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is certainly not the videogame equivalent of a Hanson album or a James Cameron epic; Zelda: OoT is videogaming at its most excellent, where it stands out as a work of quality art rather than a successful demographic venture.

I'm playing Zelda Wii for the first time and it's shocking to me how much a non-controllable camera is bothering me.  Supporters will say 'hur Z targeting auto center' plus C button is good enough.  I say z targeting is fucked because there are too many times when you're on a platform and have enemies flying around you, and the camera jumps from enemy to enemy in a tight situation.

It's sad when a launch title highlights the fact that your controller needs at least 2 more buttons.

I'm going to pick up the GC version on the cheap at some point, but I'm not sure how good it will look on my plasma.

Doug had a partciular way of finding just the right words for the right moment. Often poigniant and insightful, never dull, sometimes unnerving but always reflecting his unique sense of humour, this is a collection of those phrases.

“psst, putcher dickaway.” – usually said while whizzing off the deck at the end of the day.

“WHAT a hammer-head...” – usually preceded by some kind of 'bone-head' move/comment by himself...

“.....watch out for the steamer!” – not a steam engine or ship but doggy-doo, generally Tunook's.

“TOOOOO much fun!!!” – ... always with a big smile, said while taking in his rich life. Often during a session on Doug's cherished Nintendo Wii.

“I wonder what the poor folks are doing” – generally said while in a nice part of the world

“I'd rather be at the Bull River Inn drinking beer and watching soaps” -- generally said while floating on a nice stretch of river

"Unfortunately for the nay-sayers, Zelda turned out great. Really great. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is certainly not the videogame equivalent of a Hanson album or a James Cameron epic; Zelda: OoT is videogaming at its most excellent, where it stands out as a work of quality art rather than a successful demographic venture." -- lolololololollolololololololololol
