The Facial Hair Thread
« on: August 04, 2006, 09:04:12 PM »
I'm letting the facial hair grow out.  Not sure how much I'm going to let it grow, but for now I'm doing the fuzzy face thing.

Who else is letting it all grow out?

I can't grow a nice, full beard, exactly, but I will occasionally grow a moustache and goatee.

Like this:

It seems like for the past couple of years, I've done this regularly starting sometime around September, and then I tire of it around Christmastime, or just after the new year, and shave it off.  I don't know why exactly I go through this, but it just feels right.

Maybe I'll start earlier this year  :-\

I want a beard so bad. I already have a moustache, but my chin hair is still growing. It's noticeable and rather unkept, but I don't want to cut it off for fear it won't grow back.

No, just to even it out.  Clippers for most of it and scissors for hard places.

I just have a chin beard. I've had a beard before too. I think I'm gonna shave it off when I get a haircut. I just have a crazy look going right now.

I had a hideous chin beard in high school, which was really only good for cosplaying Gendo Ikari one ill-fated summer. :((((((

That evolved into the beard+stache around the mouth, then a full beard in college. Now I try to maintain a constant layer of stubble a little shorter than my hair. I have horribly oily hair, so it needs to stay super short. Plus stubble, it's passable.

sometimes i feel like keeping a stache and a small beard since it looks masculine but people say it doesn't suit me, however if I shave it then I'm occasionally perceived as being under 18 years old when I'm 24 :(

plastic hair and a soul patch = douche

no hair product and no soul patch = dork

Well some facial hair patterns look good on some people, and some look good on others.  Just like the bald look isn't good on everyone.  If you got a loppy scarred head, the bald look isn't going to work.

Anyways, I took a clipper/buzzer to the face and this is what I got going so far.  Real light right now, I over shaved my sideburns I believe.

Debating on shaving it off before classes start or not right now.  It just sort of fits my lazy bum/villianous mood right now.

You just proved the point. Tony had a soul patch in Season 1, and he was a douchebag. Once he lost it, he became the one of the most-loved characters on the show.

Shave it! can it get any thicker?

Basically if youre going bald, facial hair is the way to go. But if youre going bald I recommend against a beard. Basically the whole point to facial hair is the frame the face.

Depending on the overall shape of your face you have various options in terms of what kinda facial hair you can get away with. A lot depends on how thick your hair grows and how fast.

Goatee/Moustaches are probably the most work and look bad with anything even a little post a 5 o clock shadow growing around it. Shaving is tricky because if you dont shave for a bit the goatee can shift, so you must always troubleshoot your goatee in the mornings to make sure its sharing an equal amount of your face on each side. It means constant upkeep but honestly presents a bit more class than

THE BEARD

which isn't a bad way to go. It requires the least amount of work to keep up. Usually you can keep it cropped to sensible dimenions. You can also shape it like shrubbery but thats more work than keeping up a goatee stache combo. These things can get out of control tho. Unless you invest in a hair trimmer.

HOWEVER if you are lazy and trimming a DEPP STYLE stache goatee combo is a lot of work, but you feel ashamed to have a beard that houses a family of small birds, you CAN do what I do and just grow a goatee stache combo where the stach connects to the goatee on the sides of the mouth. I saw it called a round beard and possibly a verdi before. ANYWAY this is one of the most popular ways to grow facial hair because its incredibly easy to maintain. Just go over it with a trimmer at your desired length every few days and ta da.

This I do not know, but I do know that the sideburns can get thicker and they were, and quite often got to be like mutton chops on me.  I haven't let facial hair grow elsewhere for awhile, so I don't know if it will get thicker like the sideburns or not.

I was thinking the goatee-to-mustache thing, or something like the Johnny Depp picture. I am not sure how I'd look in a beard.  It all comes down to "which looks the most ridiculous and should be avoided?".

I am not ditching it yet, because facial hair is like a ritual for me. The sideburns were a symbolic ritual and it would be like ducking out of a new ritual.  if it doesn't work though, it doesn't work.

The DEPP thing doesnt work for everyone. A lot has to do with chin structure and how the hair on your chin grows., and if you have a darker skin tone. Generally it wont work if you have light hair since the effect of the look is lost of it isn't striking. It needs to provide contrast or it just looks sorta sickly.

Honestly its A LOT of work to keep that kinda look up, its better to let them connect and just do a hair trimmer buzz every few days.

I honestly would say no to facial hair if it doesnt LOOK dark on a person.

Must be the flash then. Well if you hair isnt light then youre set.

Facial hair is about contrast.
