you're right that it isn't reusing gaiden assets -- i looked at a couple shots of gaiden's moai level. i wish i could be excited about this, but i don't trust download services, least of all wiiware.

edit: wait, the backgrounds aren't pulled from gradius gaiden, but i think the vic viper sprite and some of the hud elements are

Thank god for download services, we probably wouldn't have even gotten a new Gradius game if it wasn't for them...

I wonder how ninthings would feel about an 8-bit Zelda!

I'd personally go apeshit over one, I loved the original Zelda.

NES Zelda was ass. NES Metroid was also ass. Ironically, they're both my favorite franchises today, but not because of their NES games.

Fortunately (rather unfortunately, depending on how you look at it) Nintendo seems to be focusing more on how many gimmicks they can possibly cram into their games as opposed to making new franchise entries with archaic graphics as a "treat for fans". Unless one expects the worst case scenerio... (8-bit Nintendo games with waggle  :-X )

Sorry fellas, I'm powered by a sadness drive, so your depression feeds me just as well as anyone's!

I hope they do 8-bit Castlevania next!

I remember making quests and mods YEARS ago. It's Zelda 1, with an included editor for making your own sprites, maps, and items.

Yeah, I don't feel too good about this.  It smells too much like a straight remake, and if it isn't, it'll be a bunch of levels and bosses from the first three games strung together in a different order.

Being that they have failed to make the jump into 3D with the series, I don't see how it could be a universally bad thing.  I'd rather them try it as a, well, 16-bit Zelda or as, heck, a Landstalker clone.

So is this going to be like Mega Man 9 and get announced for the real systems in a week or two?

I'm all over this but if this game is the replacement for the rumored next gen one then that fucking sucks. Mega Man will always have games coming out each year so I'm ok with the retrograde, but it seems Gradius has become that one or two times a generation type game.

They'd love it? I dunno, everyone at GAF is jizzing over the shitty 8 bit MM, saying that apparently it's the only right way for that series to go, soooooooo....

whoa whoa whoa..say what you will about the games as they play today, but Zelda and Metroid were both huge when they came out.  Their popularity today is totally because of the NES games.  and the great sequels, which still follow the blueprints laid by the original NES versions.

anyway, fukken lol @ Gradius Rebirth.  No Treasure involvement, no interest.

edit: fuck, this is an old thread.  whoops :lol
