1UP: With your new focus on user-friendly controls and playability, will this approach play into, for example, future iterations of Mario and Zelda? Will this affect game design in any way?

Shiguru Miyamoto: Frankly, some of the so-called "franchise games" are quite difficult for nongamers to play, so making accessible games for these players is key. With Zelda, we have to consider how to make it accessible for new gamers to pick up and play and enjoy just as hardcore gamers have. For example, we've got the Touch Generations series. Now, we're not necessarily going to make our "franchise" games in that style, but we'll take what we know and have learned -- the philosophy behind those games -- and incorporate it into franchise games. That's a philosophy that's very strong at Nintendo.
:link :mario... :dur

Yep, those 'hardcore' extremely difficult classic Nintendo franchise games are going to be catered more and more to the non-gamer.

You can't help but smile at this situation.

The nfags finally got what they wanted. Nintendo is back on top. All it took was the complete and total abandonment of every game that turned them into nfags in the first place.

Is that irony? I'm terribly at picking it out.

Wait, Zelda is too difficult and doesn't hold the player's hand enough already? Zelda?

Basically that people who don't play games are too stupid to play normal games and instead of giving them the joy of learning, we will let them flail around until they tire themselves out and call it a work out.

We've been getting new Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Metroid, Fire Emblem, Wario Land, and more in under two years, so not really.

if reading game forums has taught me anything, it's that game enthusiasts value identification with their favorite companies more than they value games. they occasionally have brief, petulant outbursts of semi-independent thought, but they always come back around -- falling in mental lockstep with nintendo or whoever is a deeper comfort than games can ever provide. at root, i doubt nintendo fans are really bothered by nintendo's exit from games

Is anyone else's head spinning from the inherent absurdity in his observation?  "Our games are too hard for non-gamers", kinda like

Our alcohol is too intoxicating for non-drinkers
Our pornography is too adult for children
Our book is too wordy for non-readers
Our tuxedos are too dressy for McDonald's
Jennifer Connelly is too feminine to be attractive to gay men
My penis is too small for sex with an elephant

 ???

accessibility doesn't go hand in hand with making technically inept and shallow-playing games though.

Nintendo's stance on accessibility in gaming is a false dichotomy, created as a means of justifying the wii's complete incapacity as a core gaming platform.

Miyamoto is right.  Games like Rock Revolution are too difficult to pick up and play.  They need more waggle to notes.

Ironically, Nintendo was one of the first people to prove this...

Exactly, which makes their behavior nowadays even less coherent. Heck, Mario Galaxy-a game that even the hardcore wii haters give respect to-is pretty easy to pick up and play from what I understand. I would ask why they aren't doing that, but the answer actually seems pretty simple-wii sports and themed waggle games probably cost next to nothing to produce in comparison to the budget for a Mario Galaxy.

So this whole waggle nonsense is all your fault.

Figures.

"This is the deep-dish, delicious irony endured by the Nintendo stalwart: to see their platform of choice ascendant, even as their bright God turns his face away."

Tycho wrote that up for the post that went along with the drama inducing comic.  So perfect.

If they do make Link's Sword Training, I would probably buy it.  Crossbow Training is seriously one of the best games on the Wii.  It came with some plastic piece of shit, but you can throw that away and play it just fine with the wii remote and nunchuck combo.

Of course he didn't. Wind Waker was the first sign of Nintendo's new stance with their introduction of a zelda with a "no fail" state.

Watch nfags spin this abortion as a step in the right direction!
Borys you do know that's not real, right.

Then again, you thought that Willco's chinchilla was some kind of dog.
