Do you think this will happen any time soon?  a few years?  Man, it's depressing.  Intel's chips are tremendous and highly superior, but for how long will their luster shine?  How long will the trailblazing go on?  I always love compettion, and hate it when monopolists stagnate the market.  See the browser wars, for example.

Really? I thought that AMD's processors  were considered better for multimedia than Intel's.

Intel's been king since Core 2 (or even Core) launched.  Intel's pretty much always been king in the laptop market.

See:  MS bailing Apple out in the late 90s.  MS bought a ton of their stock, and sold it when Apple was doing better.

Intel sort of needs AMD around, the competition is what keeps everyone on their toes and working towards a better chip. It works out best for both companies.

I'm sure AMD will come up w/ something that'll win some of the market back. I was even a huge AMD fan until Intel's Core 2s. It's a great processor.

Core speeds have hit a ceiling. You can go with a dozen cores but nothing to differentiate you from the competition. They really need that cpu/gpu combination to work out.

That's not true. Though the core speeds have been similar, Intel has clearly differentiated itself from AMD over the last few years by making processors which perform better and more efficiently than AMD's. And AMD previously did the same thing with its single core Athlons.

Maleks right.  Speeds may have stayed since about the same since the Pentium 4 but the back ends have gotten a lot wider also power efficient is a growing concern which will be a outlet for competition.   Core speeds don't mean much.
