Looking to go virtual bowling with your South African friends in PlayStation Home? Think again! According to a Sony representative at E3, Home will be region locked. While you can visit anyone's private apartment, all public pavilions are restricted by your geographical area.

I wonder if the Microsoft avatars are region locked, I mean what with game ratings and all. Plus netflix is only a United States thing right? Probably can't invite Joe Anybody from the UK or where ever to watch Dead Like Me on netflix.

kinda makes sense to region lock public areas--don't want to be put in a place full of people you can't understand.  hopefully they let you have things like chess and bowling in your apartment though.

ideally, they'd let you make a private instance of a public space that you could invite people to.

not a huge deal either way.
"what's the point of even discussing home?" is the question you should be asking.
you've made 3 4 posts in a home thread.  congradulations and good jon.

Great idea. They should do this for Facebook as well.

As long as I can still invite you all over when I get my porn room, that's OK.

why don't ms just incorporate Facebook linking to XB accounts and add a funked up webportal to it from XBL?
i mean, who the fuck wants to just social network with -other- PS3 fans?  Talk about an invite to the dull table.

Hell, if i'm going to social network i want it to be with -real- people from my past, most of whom will not own a Ps3 or X360.

But those people will be compelled to buy a $400 console in order to visit Home@Japan, err, hang out in dcharlie's private citadel of xfaggotry. You just don't get what a major win-win situation this is for $ony.

the more i talk to friends who are privy to it, the more they think it's a disaster.

Its telling when they can't even give dates at the E3 conference.
