Battlefield Bad Company single player, is it any good?
« on: July 18, 2008, 07:24:36 PM »
I need some new shooter, I think I'm officially done with COD4, but I don't want another game that is purely about MP. So, this much hyped campaign, will it entertain me?

The demo has single player.  Test it out.  It kind of sucks.

Well, I've played the demo, didn't think it was all that bad, so I was mostly wondering if it's interesting in the long run.

I enjoyed the SP.  But it is flawed, and the flaws are in that demo.  The destruction and sandbox are quite fun, but the AI is just awful.  The friendly AI is worthless, and to make up for the stupidity, the enemy AI has ridiculous aim.  You will be milking the injector through the second half of the game.

But it really is worthy of a play through, though for single player it is a rental only.

I play this game a couple times a week online, but I wouldn't buy it for the solo experience.

As Tabasco said, your buddy AI is worthless and the enemy AI is ridiculuous.  Enemy AI aim is so spot on the moment you move around the corner they rain fire down upon you with direct hits.  Constantly having to manually heal yourself is annoying.

The single player would be ok to bide the time if you want to take a break from multi, but I wouldn't order it as the main dish.

Hmm. I'll probably rent it then. Thanks all. Is the PS3 version pretty alright?

Yes.  The PS3 version only has some tearing problems the 360 version doesn't, but that is really it.

I've been too addicted to the multi-player to give the SP more than an hour or two.  I think I'm still on level 2.  I know you said you don't want another online shooter but seriously if you like MP at all, just buy this game.  It's easily some of the most fun, epic, chaotic and addictive multi-player this gen.  It's my personal favorite and I've played 'em all. You'll easily get your money's worth just with the MP.  The demo also has MP so might wanna try that unless they took down the server.

I've only played SP since I rarely play MP on any game, and it's alright. Middle of the road. Fun to blow shit up (air strikes!) but awful AI, both enemy and friendly. Also, I wouldn't really call it sandbox since it does make you go in specific directions and complete objectives in order, but it's not as rigid as games like CoD or FEAR, either. There are multiple directions from which to approach most objective areas.

Fuck it, I got Warhawk instead. Which, sans the bugs that plagued the beta, is a shitload of fun.

Well, SP keeps freezing, and it's really not fun enough for me to tolerate the freezes. Multi-player doesn't freeze, but it's shit. Excessive gun sway coupled with fucked up targeting, murky visual presentation and bullet sponge damage/health makes for a pretty shitty experience. As does having to deal with vehicle campers. And to think that they ditched Battlefield for PC for this. Gaming.  :gloomy

Best gun models of the generation so far. Doesn't stop it from being a shit game, unfortunately. I think this is one of those situations where the lack of headsets among PS3 owners is seriously detrimental to the game experience, but that still wouldn't have fixed the asshole targeting and damage system.

Does the 360 version also have a shitty grain filter?
