I got back from the Red Cross half an hour ago. They've been calling saying blood is in high demand right now so I figured I'd help. When I got into the doctor's exam room she gave me this test that included a bunch of odd questions which were meant to weed out who could and couldn't give blood
-have you ever been to Africa?
-have you had sex with another male since 1977, even once?
-have you visited the UK recently
So I asked her why ask about Africa and not say, China or Thailand, etc etc etc.
Doctor: We ask about Africa because there's a new strain of HIV spreading there that's incurable
Me: Uh...like every other HIV?
Doctor: Well it's different. Anyway..
I didn't know Africa had an exclusive hold on Super Aids. I'm not a travel czar or anything but I doubt many people go to Africa and have sex with the natives, as compared to (once again) Thailand. I'd go for the safari shit and finding my roots, not to bang people. Oh well
Also I don't see why they don't let gay people give blood. I understand the AIDS risk statistically, but if you're going to discriminate against gays why not discriminate against black women while you're at it (another risk group). If they did that there'd be a huge shit storm but they can get away with shunning gay people which is distinguished mentally-challenged
