Holy Shit - Shyamalan has hit a new fucking low. The Happening

I'm a fucking avid defender of his other films, including Lady in the Water, but this is... wow. 

The acting and general direction is fucking terrible.  It seriously looks like the actors had no idea how they should feel in this movie. 

And oh Lord, the writing.  The writing is worse than ever.

"It makes you kill yourself.  I mean, just when I thought there couldn't be anymore evil in the world" and she says it all with a face that looks super serious and astonished but in a tone that sounds joking.

Oh and this movie has all the subtleties of an atomic bomb.  He must think the audience is fucking distinguished mentally-challenged.  "Do a close up on that newspaper headline... but be nonchalant about it!"  And it's fucking full of terrible "we're doomed" cliches.  Relationship on the rocks?  Check.  Ethnic best friend?  Check

I'll give him that.  Like his other films, it has some awesome technical things going for it.  But the writing and direction is absolutely fucking terrible.

I like his movies for concept>execution and for technical reasons.  He has some great ideas, but he needs to let someone else write them and flesh them out.

Leguizamo is absolutely atrocious too.

One cool thing was a guy teasing a lion and letting them eat him piece by piece.  That rocked

But for every cool moment there's...

It's probably better than The Village.

I'll never forget that day in the theater. When the 'twist' was revealed, the entire audience groaned (seriously). I never seen that happen before.

I haven't watched it, but the scene in the trailers with,

"SIR... WE'VE LOST CONTACT"

"...LOST CONTACT ...WITH WHO!?"

"...WITH EVERYONE."

Was quite possibly the worst acting I've ever seen in a major motion picture. I'm serious, my high school drama club did better than that.

I felt juvenile laughing at the deaths, but some of them *were* funny and the dialogue wasn't helping matters.

But yeah, The Happening is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. What a fucking turd.

I have to admit, I thought this movie would be pretty good after the first trailer came out many months ago. I thought it was going to be a return to form for Shyamalan after Village and LITW. I guess I was wrong. I'm torrenting The Happening right now just to see for myself.

I thought it was a solid movie. Marky Mark did a great job. Zooey didn't but who thought she would? She's terrible in every movie she is in. Only thing I didn't like was it got an R rating but didn't really use it. Most of the deaths weren't even shown, you just heard them.

She was awesome in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and Almost Famous.  Or maybe just hot.

And Wahlberg's comic relief was a saving grace in this movie.

"I was at the pharmacy yesterday and there was a really good looking young girl behind the pharmacy counter.  I asked her where the cough syrup was.  I didn't even have a cough.  I almost bought it too.  And it wasn't some superfluous bottle of cough syrup either.  It was like $6.  Yeah."

That part had me rollin'.
