TVC, what GPS did you get?

My honking old TomTom One died and I think I just want to replace it with something less gargantuan. If it lives again I will sell it.

Look into the Mio line, I sell them all the time at my store. At least among our stock, it's the cheapest nav system to offer text-to-speech.

I got a Garmin nuvi 780.  It seemed like the best model you could get before you start getting to the really expensive models.  I'm sure you can find a model that's even cheaper that fits your needs.

Amazon has the 660 for $300, which seems like a pretty good deal to me...  I've been looking into getting a GPS device myself.
If I decided I want to take it to Europe sometime, I'd be able to buy a map update separately at that point right?

Yeah.  My Garmin came with the complete maps for the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico.

From what my friend said (and I have seen similar statements on the net), Garmin has the slightly better US maps, and TomTom has the slightly better Europe maps, but I've also heard that the quality is similar enough that it doesn't really matter.

Yeah I might be leaning toward the 3 series now... I'm not sure if a bigger/wider screen is worth $100.

Man this shit is confusing, too many options  ???

I already have a Jawbone, so the Bluetooth stuff is mostly academic. And while traffic info is cool, I'm too cheap to pay the yearly fee to use it. The bigger screen is cool, but I didn't care for the rest of the feature creep.
