pc gaming is something that you get into on your own, a completely opt-in experience that doesn't really compete with the console platforms. Because of that, direct platform advocacy is trumped by actual enthusiasm for the games.

When you talk about how cool a game like Children of the Nile is because of its attention to the socioeconomics of the period, or discuss the mechanics involved in forming a proper counter to a 5 Panzer Grenadier PE start as the Americans in Company of Heroes, a lot of people will just sort of gloss over it and think "meh, not for me". Then there is always one or two people that see that sort of talk as interesting and check out the game's demo or pirate it (no, I don't mind it when people pirate stuff. The dude that pirates a game because he wants to play it now is the dude that goes on to buy stuff later when their conscience and wallet catch up with them).

I can't bring myself to completely hate Nintendo. The few good games they make, and I don't mean few good games they put out, because Battalion Wars Wii is shit, but the games like Mario Galaxy and Twilight Princess, things like that just make me wish they would put out more of those games on a constant stream. I actually kind of want them to drop out of the console business and focus on portable gaming and third party games for the PS3/360/PC.

I liked the N64 controller back in 1996 and played a lot of Goldeneye and Quake 2 with it, but I'd never try to convince anyone it was better than Mouse/Keyboard. Mouse and Keyboard trumps all for FPSes.

I'll probably be the only one, but I'll agree with you on that. The Gamecube controller, especially the Wavebird, was very nice. All the main buttons were situated right around your thumb, and the design was very ergonomical.

Gamecube controller is actually very interesting to me. I wouldn't say I like it the best or anything, but the button layout is a bit smart if you don't think about it in the traditional way. The main "A" action button is always in the center, and from this main button you can be pressing any other button at the same time without every lifting off the button.

I think the GC controller is really comfortable to hold (certainly more than the DualShock), but the D-pad is crap, and I hate the button sizes, not to mention the "clicking" of the triggers is pointless and the Z button is awkwardly placed. 360 is easily the best controller for 3D games but sucks ass for 2D, due to the awful dpad. Fix the dpad and the 360 contoller would be incredible.
