Is resistance 1 like $20 yet? I could use another PS3 game.

Maybe if you get it used.  Sony's been real stingy with game prices this gen.

You might want to get R&C instead.  It's the better Insomniac shooter.

Resistance is pretty boring for anyone who's played most FPSes on PC.

But it is great if you are used to ho-hum console shooters.  I am able to still enjoy it despite usually playing PC shooters.  It is dumb fun and Insomniac knows how to make awesome weapons and subsequently makes Rare it's bitch since they failed at that with PDZ.  I did like Ratchet Future more than Resistance, but I think if you only pick one, play Ratchet.  Resistance 2 looks like it is going to amazing and far better than Resistance 1.  Truly following up what happened last gen where Ratchet 2 surpassed the first game in leaps and bounds.  Hopefully Uncharted doesn't follow the same pattern than the Ratchet games had.

It will come out for $30 when the 'Greatest Hits' line drops.

Well, he's good people.

Looking at the footage, cinema or not, that looks a hell of a lot richer than Resistance 1. Awesome.

And Draft, I'd just wait for Resistance 2 if I were you. Resistance 1 is a good game, but it's more of a collection of solid FPS moments (with the addition of Insomniac brand weaponry) than a great stand-alone FPS. Resistance 2 seems to be dialed up quite a bit.

Yeah, this footage is great.  I just really hope the iron sights for single player are temporary since the multiplayer ones are much better.

I hope this time the enemies will be as varied as the weapons.  One reason why I found R1 to be boring was that all the aliens looked the same, except for the differences in size.

Agreed, although I really liked the Steelheads (the ones with the augers, I think that's what they are called) and the elite hybrids towards the end of the game. Widowmakers looked real cool in action, but they never felt all that dangerous. Shoot rockets from a distance, boom crash. I thought Ratchet Deadlocked had more interesting enemies.

I'm thinking they pushed too hard to get out of the cartoon thing, to the point where it became a bit uninspired. From the looks of it, Sucker Punch has done a better job making the transition to "realistic" while still keeping the cartoon appeal intact.

One thing I hope they don't do this time around is the whole "2nd round weapons" stuff. It's a nice reward and all, but it sucks that you basically need to play the game again to experience for example the dual reapers.

I actually really liked that.  When I was replaying Resistance just recently, I got all these weapons I never used before (except for in multiplayer at times, but still some I never ever saw).  Anything that makes the second playthrough interesting and keeps you guessing.  Ratchet games do it also.

I know, but the Reapers are just too hot to hide away like that. I know there were people who didn't like the targeting system, but I thought it was basically brilliant.

This may be the most complete gaming experience when launched.

1. SP Campaign
2. 8 Player co-op campaign that is a different story.
3. 60 player multi.

Wasn't there a flamethrower as well?  Yeah, there's no point in making the gamer play a 2nd round to get the coolest weapons.  Leave that crap to the Japanese developers.

that big monster fight still looks really unfinished.  supposedly that was the case, according to bryan on 1up show, but the only change he specifically mentions is the building will be on fire.  i guess the city is flooded or something, but when you get thrown by the monster and get a better view of the city, it's just a lot of flat gray and looks like really early footage--too early to show to the public.

Ted Price is awesome.  He totally looks like that really cool High School teacher who wouldn't give a shit if you cut class or not, but you totally didn't want to because he made it so entertaining.

the big monster fight doesn't make a ton of sense to me. even though hale is enhanced, getting tossed around like that (and the glass effect still needs major work, which I know will be fine because R1 has amazing glass) doesn't seem right. It's way too slow.

that whole scene just seemed like a really early build.  them showing it at e3, however, makes me worry they won't be making huge changes before release.  really doubt they'll delay it, but they need to step it up of they want to 'wow' people.

I like you.  You are like, maybe the second person other than me to bring up how amazing the glass in Resistance 1 is.  No one cares about these small things, but I like them.

It has a leveling up system, so I expect it to have some good length to it.  Probably more than Too Human.

for real?  the 8 player co-op has always been my main interest in the game--single player doesn't really grab me and their 60 player MP doesn't seem as interesting as i was hoping.  but i think an 8 player co-op campaign could really be awesome if it was fleshed out.

edit: everybody on gaf was raving about the glass...

I didn't like his chest-thumping during the E3 demonstration though. It felt sort of out of character, but I guess I don't blame him for wanting to talk up Insomniac's achievement. It does seem like one hell of a sequel, that's certainly true.

And yeah, the glass deal was probably the first officially recognized, generally praised awesome thing about the game.

No one cares about these small things, but I like them.

The coolest small detail in Resistance was watching the Hailstorm "turret" in action. When depleted, it would stop spinning, fold its pins and drop to the ground, where it'd actually roll away for quite a few feet before disappearing.

I never actually noticed that.  I rarely ever used the Hailstorm when playing.  That was actually the one big problem I had with Resistance 1, they gave you all these weapons and most times it was better to use the main assault rifle or bullseye because of ammo consideration.  In multiplayer it wasn't an issue, but I'm glad they are fixing it for Resistance 2.  I also thought that the sniper rifle in Resistance 1 in single player was brilliant, although not so much in multiplayer.  The idea that when zooming it it would also slow down time was great.

Oh, and falling snow.  Falling snow looked really good.

What was so special about the glass effect in Resistance?  I paid special attention to it after someone mentioned it but it didn't seem all that different from glass breaking in Rainbow 6:Vegas.

It looked like real glass actually would if you were to hit it with a hammer, and on top of that you could chip pieces off of it and it would behave like real glass.

This is such a bizarre thing to be talking about, but it really stood out considering other graphic aspects of Resistance weren't spectacular.

The Hailstorm was cool to use as artificial cover-fire, but yeah... not enough ammo. It was an awesome weapon too.  :(

Looking at the detail in environments like the Tower, it seemed to me as if the game was designed around pushing geometry first and foremost, with everything else (lighting, for example) falling behind. You could see this in gun models too; a lot of detail, very clean, but they still felt flat. I appreciated how clean it was, but in some environments like Cheddar Gorge, it really fell apart.

I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that the most spectacular environment in the game was an alien one, although the snow and ice nighttime area leading up to the end level was pretty damned amazing too.

I wonder if they sacraficed too much of the poly budget on environments though . The enemies were kinda blocky.  Those spider looking things seemed composed of 10 polygons.

Yeah, Resistance was really uneven in terms of graphics.  Resistance 2, even at this early state, seems like it is much better.

But again they do a really small touch that kind of confuses and intrigues me.  Like, in that one shot where you see a bunch of ships (the original teaser) advancing to destroy the city, that entire scene has a long ass time line.  If you stood in that one stop and watched those ships for 20+ minutes, you will notice that they are actually progressing right there despite it just being a brief backdrop.

That scene, except from the gameplay perspective.  They showed it again in one of the live demos, but I don't remember which one anymore.  The huge ships move slower in the actual gameplay, but apparently it doesn't loop or anything like that, this stuff is actually happening and you can stand there and watch the ships move in and destroy the city if you wanted to.

Some were, but I thought others looked pretty good. Since I can't find an image of the end level hybrids, which as far as I'm concerned are the coolest looking enemies in the game:

IT was also annoying that all the enemies were basically the same things over and over.  For as much shit as I like to give Halo 3, there was a nice variety in enemies you fought.

Agreed. And when they did introduce "special" enemies, it was over in a flash, and pretty meh. Like the first Widowmaker, that you can take out with a tank. Why even bother putting him there if he poses so little of a threat? The second one was a bit more interesting, with the Widowmaker coming in after a couple of stalkers and a bunch of hybrids, but it was still mostly a matter of staying in cover and firing rockets in its direction.

Again, the final few levels were so far above the rest of the game that the whole stretch there felt a bit like a waste.
