Far Cry 2 - creative ways to kill people
« on: July 24, 2008, 01:41:10 AM »
A short video that I rather enjoyed viewing.  The AI reacts in quite interesting ways when you start toying with them via a sniper rifle.  Could be a lot of fun.

Only way to properly kill someone is to walk up behind them and stab them in the heart.

that or pushing them off a building.

Ubi has yet to make a game with good AI.  I've watched the videos and can't really tell yet if this one is good or bad.  Ridiculous accuracy =/ good AI

The animation and explosions look really good.  When's this coming out?

he shot one bullet to hit a foot, another to hit them both, and a final one to finish off the 2nd guy.  he introduced the tactic as a way to kill more effeciently...  but he could have just shot them both in the head and got it over with in two shots.

I think the point was to draw the other guy over and it also slowed him down a lot which may be useful when sniping.  You could perhaps draw a lot of people over if you left one squirming on the ground.

This game looks great, but I really do think the environments are going to get repetitious.

Admittedly I'm not all that excited about Far Cry 2 after playing through Crysis, but some of the stuff it shows in that video looks pretty cool.

Yeah, Crysis had some fun stuff in it too, but that didn't make it an amazing game. So why should I be overly excited about what appears to be more of the same?

Aren't the two games made by different devlopers?  Crysis was a solid 7 in terms of gameplay.  I'll be happy if Far Cry 2 is at least that good.

Yeah, it's different developers, but I still haven't seen anything from the gameplay that leads me to believe it's somehow going to be a huge leap from Far Cry 1/Crysis.

The first half was definitely the best part of Crysis, but even that got old after a while. It's basically just you in a large open environment going from one outpost full of generic soldiers to another utilizing either stealth or brute force to take them out. The power suit was a cool addition, but that won't be in Far Cry 2.

I think Crysis was an 8/10 or 9/10 game for the sections where there were open areas and they gave you freedom to do what you want.  Then it all went to shit drug it down A LOT.

Only thing I have against Far Cry 2 is that I think the environment is probably going to be a bit boring.  It doesn't have as much variety as an Island, and even that got boring after a while.  Someone please make an urban game using this engine.

Here's some long E3 gameplay videos.  I haven't yet seen part three as it only went up a little while ago, but the first two show a fair bit of stuff.

This game looks great, but I really do think the environments are going to get repetitious.

It really depends on how majestic they make them. I mean, Africa is a pretty remarkable place, so there should be enough amazing vistas and contrasting environments. Although I for one am getting a little bit tired of jungle and sunbaked environments, wouldn't mind seeing some arctic or alpine areas. But the environment is the least of my worry here.
