August 26th.  I am teh hyped.  Only way I could be more hyped would be if this were shipping a month later as one of the first Criterion Blu-Rays.

I'm thinking about buying this and then just springing it on my friends without telling them anything about it.  How awesome would that be? I contend that it would be SO AWESOME. Maybe I'll do a double-feature with Caligula if still have any friends left.

Paolo Bonacelli is actually in both movies.  He's The Duke in Salo and some sort of military chief in Caligula.  In Caligula, Malcolm McDowell says something like "I've heard you like little boys?" and Bonacelli replies, "No, sir, BIG boys."

Also, here is the official nsfw trailer for Salo:

I, uh, think we're still not allowed to see this movie here in Australia. I read an article a week ago oh here we go

The thing is, I don't see how anyone could watch the movie and NOT get that it's an art flick.  This isn't like, porno or exploitation or anything like that.  The only real reason to be against it is that a significant portion of the cast is under the age of 18.

mm yeah that was the impression the minority wanted to push.. 'it's age and careful construction of narrative' ...and it was a close call but I guess we're behind the curve again.
our rating systems though may be better. we kinda split that too far gap between your pg 13 and R with an intermediate rating.

and yeah pasolini's name can be flipped to in a number of film history reference books.. not exactly on the fringe.

I really think it has to do with all the unverifiably aged nudity in the movie.  Even people that would watch this for the naughty thrills would likely get bored with it.  Outside of a lot of teen nudity, there's really not much graphic to it.  No especially explicit sex scenes (no on camera penetration).

There are plenty of nekkid females.  All sex is simulated.  No penetration, and most of it isn't even shot at a graphic angle.

My favourite part is when they put fire under that guy's penis. That could possible be one of the most painful things ever.
