Oh god I don't want to die

Sorry I missed it, but what did you have extracted or fixed good man?

Long story short, my wisdom teeth came completely in.  On the upper jaw, one of the wisdom teeth basically cracked a tooth into 3ish pieces (the tooth had a filling, and thus the wisdom tooth was able to break it, like an egg with a crack in it).  These pieces tore upon the gum, which is basically the "eye of the storm."  It's under(ish) the broken tooth and has been bleeding steadily for a long ass time.  Also, the wisdom tooth that broke it, due to, well, breaking something on entry, came in at an angle described as "sideways."  Due to the bleeding, I had one of them there fancy dental infections that had spread all throughout my jaw, and my dentist said he wouldn't be surprised if it had already spread or was on the verge of spreading elsewhere.  On the other side of my mouth, there's a lot of pressure in the lower jaw because the wisdom tooth there fits in very tightly, and sometimes it gets stuck on the top wisdom tooth when I try to shut my mouth.  Because of this, the top wisdom tooth is also somewhat crooked.

Basically, my wisdom teeth came in and dun fucked things up.  The tooth that cracked into three gets removed next visit.  I asked how painful it would be, and my dentist said "It will be memorable."

Wow man I feel for you. Like everyone has said already, don't stop with the happy pills.

Did he prescribe antiobiotics for the infection?  I hate to say it but you should have listened when I told you to get some a few days ago.  :wag

Dentist sez most/all of the pain should go away within a few days once the pencilin kicks in.

As long as the bacteria isn't resistant to the antiobiotic.  You need to let him know if the infection doesn't go away.

Penicillin resistant bacteria are quite common.

I've not used antibiotics much.  The only prescription I can recall in the past was for amoxicilin, and that would have been years and years ago.  He said the pain should be waning by Sunday or Monday.  If it's not, I see him next Thursday anyway for some yankin.

Now to eat more percocet and listen to Siouxsie and the Banshees

I have to get all 4 of my wisdom teeth hacked out, and I have to go to a specialist for one of them because it's weird and sideways.
that takes like 2 minutes a tooth, the only reason that they do it in two surgeries is so that you can still eat with one side.

but I believe that they do give an oxy scrip even though there's no real pain afterwards.

May be lucky is the wrong word, but I was legally fucked up for 4 weeks when I had my wisdom teeth out.

I smoke a ton, so I had fucking dry sockets, but you seem to have a worse condition and an even more lenient doc than I did. I ended up with a huge-ass bottle of percocet and 5 refills. after the 3rd bottle I was BORED of percocet and sold the rest. Milk it yo. :-*

I haven't smoked in years and years.  He did mention that my top right gums are kinda dry.  That's where the constant bleeding is.  I am nervous about this molar extraction, just because it's so fucked up.

This is not what I've heard!
I forgot to mention that what they did with me is if the teeth are partway out or something.  If they really need to pull it out, they knock you out and so obviously the anesthesia will make you feel like crap in addition to how your gums feel after they cut you up.

but they give you decent drugs even if it's the quick type.

All four of mine are entirely in  There's only one that doesn't have an issue (that was mentioned today).  I'm guessing that one gets to get cut out just in case, since my luck has been so bad so far.

He seemed like a cool dentist in general.  I explained how I went like 7 years without seeing a dentist due to no/inadequate insurance, and then I tried to get things going again last year, but I ran into insurance issue in spite of having very acceptable dental insurance.  He says he's heard that same story a ton of times, and situations of severity similar to this aren't all that rare for people in their 20s.  I also got him to rant on how cosmetic dentistry's rise to power in the 80s and 90s totally fucked over everyone as far as insurance goes.

He was also much, much better than any dentist I've had in regards to clearly explaining what he was going to do.  I was really impressed by that.  I was looking for an emergency dentist, but I might stick with this dude.

Also I need a root canal.  That's no shock.

Yeah, so far I lucked out.  I just hope his actual dentistry skillz match his general coolness.  I basically picked this dude because he was the first guy who would see me asap.

This is an absurd post because we don't even have universal dental care in Canada. All my dental work has been paid through private insurance or out of my own pocket.

So you're wisdom teeth haven't been taken out yet right? If so, is he going to take all four out at the same time? Oh man you're gonna be feeling so fucked up afterwards if that's the case.

Gross anecdote: one of my brothers and I go our wisdom teeth taken out at the same time. The oral surgeon is a friend of my dad's and was like "ah, you guys are going to follow the directions and not put pressure on the sides of your jaws amirite, I'm sure your dad has taught you well!" A few weeks later we both went in to get the paper gunk pulled out of the holes in our mouths. So the surgeon is taking it out of my brother, then I see him pull a 4 inch piece of spaghetti pasta out of the hole in my brother's jaw. He had spaghetti like a week earlier iirc. One of the nastiest things I've ever seen. He's a lucky bastard too because if he had waited longer to have the paper removed the hole could have been infected  :lol

I only got two of my wisdom teeth taken out during the first appointment. Your told not to chew on that side of your mouth for a week and a half or so, but I didn't chew on that side for almost a month.

No, I have to go to a specialist for the one that came in "sideways."  So I guess 3 at once, 1 later.  Or vice versa.  We haven't set that up yet.  He's more concerned about the molar.

You should just get all four wisdom teeth taken out at once at the specialist. I had all four done and two were sideways. I wouldn't want to do the recovery twice. Not because it was painful, although apparently I really lucked out on that because I felt no pain whatsoever without drugs, but because it's such a pain in the ass not being able to eat anything but mashed potatos for a week.

No worries.  I like mashed potatoes and soup a lot.  Even my previous dentist, last year, said that the one wisdom tooth would require a specialist, so I'm guessing that getting them all out in one sitting isn't likely.  We haven't scheduled that yet, so who knows.
