Siren: Blood Curse: the EB thread
« on: July 27, 2008, 11:58:46 PM »
So, it's forty bucks on the PlayStation Network, and it's a PS3 game that looks pretty damn good (with the exception of the water graphics which saying they look last gen would be an understatement)

DARK DARK DARKS
CLAUSTROPHOBICALLY CLOSE CAMERA (which you can switch from first to third person)
SOME FUCKED UP SHIT

Hey, definitely worth it, and considering the lack of survival horror for the consoles so far this gen, definitely worth picking it up. It controls better than Silent Hill 4 to say the least.

Other impressions?

So far I have only played Episode one..

Running from the zombie cop and hiding in the house was fun...the game is freaky and I felt like I couldnt get away for a while...

Good stuff so far - ep 1.

I'm only up to episode 3 but I'm enjoying it so far. I've never played a Siren game so this sight jacking stuff is new and exciting to meeeee!

I give it a 400/1000

Why are you going to rate something when you've never played it. You don't even have a Playstation 3.

The demo was awful; broken combat mechanics; a camera thats way to close, and typically awful japanese horror concepts.

I wouldn't call it awful but the movement controls feel really loose, and the camera is way too close. Makes it kind of tough to play.

I dunno. I kind of want to buy it because I want a next-gen survival horror game, but the demo's not doing much to convince me.

The game is best played in first person.  The 3rd person camera is awful, but it feels great in first person.

You can enable it by clicking down on one of the sticks.  In the demo, you can't actually use it until you've completed the first objective (meeting up with the girl).  Basically, it's introduced as part of a mission in the full game.  You can't use it during the two gameplay segments (the first part from the demo and something before that) but then you are told that it can be enabled and the game allows it throughout the rest of the title.  That's how I played Siren 2 and it makes a huge difference.  Very immersive.

Its 40 bucks????

ugh
It's a full game, though.  I don't see the problem.  It's basically $20 cheaper than the vast majority of games these days.

Its 40$ for the full thing? Isn't it 40$ for the first episode and 15$ for each one after that?

Duuuude noooooo! It's $40 for the full thing or $15 for each of the three chapters which have four episodes in each.

I've been switching back and forth between my replay of Chrono Trigger, Siren, and FFIV on the DS, so I'm only four episodes in, but it's pretty damn good so far.

This starts out promising, despite the shit controls, but quickly turns into "hit shit" which is not fun, nor particularly scary.
what chapter you on?

I still havent played CH 2 ;)

The first legitimately shitty part is chapter 5, where it introduces the past sight jack, and it won't let you save the points, making you backtrack ten or so times to get the puzzles right.

Chapter five overall is good for horror game standards... the first part is fucking great  and the second part, sans the puzzle, is still creepy.

Chapter six starts out good too.
