Do those CD resurfacer things really work?

And where can I find one? My cousin scratched up my Ninja Gaiden II disc and it keeps freezing at the same exact spot during a certain cutscene when he plays it. I tried cleaning it, but that didn't do anything at all.

I'd like to know the same thing. I bought a used copy of God of War 2 and it played fine all the way until just before the final fucking boss.

They basically scratch the shit out of your disk, but do so evenly so that the laser reads the same away all across the disc. Does that work? I know people who swear by it. A lot of place will do it for free or a small fee if you just bring it in.

From back when we used to sell them, they would work on CD's, but would outright destroy DVD's. Check around town for a place that re-surfaces them. I think Blockbusters have machines for this, too.

I heard that all Hollywood Video stores have one of these machines, but I'm not sure. I'll check Blockbuster too.

Edit: I'm not talking about the do it yourself things that stores like FYE push you to buy.

They don't work properly with DVDs? You mean I'll never get to beat up Zeus?

They do work with dvds, fixed my Bioshock with one. If you hold up a disc sideways and look closely you can see that there's pretty much two layers to it, the bottom one is just a protective cover to the top part that is actually the disc. So the disc isn't actually damaged, the problem is that the laser can't read through the scratch, that's why it's possible to just resurface it.

There are places out there that will do professional disc resurfacing, usually for only two or three dollars. I've tried it once before with one of my Star Ocean 2 discs and it worked perfectly.

i just got it resurfaced, and it works.  I got it done at an independent rental place in town.  i asked the guy who works there and he said a lot of places offer the service.

to any people who may have played Tactics Ogre, does it normally have very slow loading times when starting up a game?  I know Ogre Battle had terrible loading times, so I wouldn't be surprised.
