This suuucks...
« on: November 17, 2006, 08:21:11 PM »
The day before I'm supposed to go paintballing upstate with about 20 guys, which I've been looking forward to for over a month now, I hurt my achilles/ankle playing basketball and can't move my foot well.  I've been soaking it in warm water and Epsom salt, but I doubt it'll be better by tomorrow -- I can barely go up and down steps, so I doubt I'll have the mobility to rain death and destruction down upon my opponents.  And I haven't hurt my ankle in about 6 years.  Of all the times for it to happen... :(

I was really looking forward to paintball.  It's something I've always wanted to do (along with white-water rafting and spending a weekend at one of those murder mystery mansions), and now it looks like I'll have to experience it some other time.  Bummer.  Anyone ever go paintballing before?  Share your stories here; but don't make it sound too good or else it'll just bum me out even more. ;)

EDIT:  I'll get the "sh!tbin" and "this isn't live-journal" comments out of the way now. :P

I actually started playing Chrono Trigger again about a week and a half ago after finishing Castlevania:SotN a couple of weeks before that, so FFT will have to wait. :P

Paintball rocks.  You should try to do it again once your ankle is better.  Depending on what sort of course you're playing on, the ground could be very unlevel, or slopey.  So even if you think you can squeeze in a game tomorrow, I'd recommend sitting out.

Yeah, I was thinking about taking the chance, but then thought the better of it for the reason you stated.  We'd be playing in a forest/swamp type area, which is likely filled with things to roll my ankle on, to say nothing of the uneven terrain.  I still can't believe my luck.  I'm on a string of bad luck lately, and this isn't even the tenth of it -- but I don't want to make this any more of a sh!tbin-worthy topic than it already is. ;)

I know getting hit is inevitable, but the game still requires a level of mobility that I simply don't have right now.  I'd also like to prevent aggravating the injury since I'm in a basketball league and can't be out for too long.

Paintball rocks.  We'd play at this one paintball field that has a full bunker/trench system, as well as a two-storey fortification.  We'd run some pretty complicated coordinated assaults. :gun

Haven't been in a couple years though.

AM CRY.  :'(

Just spoke to my friend, and he's encouraging me to go since I've already paid (and it's non-refundable).  He says to just go and enjoy myself and do what I can within my means; when I told him that I didn't just want to be the proverbial cannon fodder (I'm a pretty competitive person), he insisted that there would likely be at least a couple of games where I wasn't the first person out.  So I'm gonna head out to the store later and get myself an ankle sleeve and an air cast (I'll decide which one I want to wear based on how it feels tomorrow) and I guess I'll go and give it a whirl.  He said there are about 8-9 girls coming, so that was an added incentive. ;)

Hah, check my edit on the topic post, made last night. :P

Anyhow, I woke up today (it's 6:20 AM here) in the hopes of going, but after testing the ankle I just didn't think it would be a wise move.  So now I'm bummed out.  Guess I'll be soaking my foot today, playing Chrono Trigger, and putting the finishing touches on my resume.  Not quite as exciting as causing mass bloodshed, but whatever. ;)

Wow people still paintball past the age 15? Haha

Nah me and my boys use to paintball back in day as we had a friends older brother who was like 22 and really into it.  He got us into it too, and we actually went paint balling a couple of times, fun stuff, esp back than.  I don’t know if I could see myself doing it now though, but whatever.  I remember after we got really into it we all got those paintball guns, and everyone always seemed to have a one up on mine somehow…anyway my mom took it away after I started shooting people’s cars from my window and she found out …I still never got it back

However Loki I suggest that you stay off that foot dude...I mean paintball does involve a lot of hard turns and being quick on your feet at times.

Well, it's the first time for at least half of the people going (all mid-late 20's folks), so I guess not. :P

Yeah, that's what I figured.  My competitive nature likely wouldn't allow me to sit around and be hobbled; I'd probably try to assert my natural athletic dominance (;)) and end up doing too much.  Better that I sat this one out. :)

They should just pay money to shoot real people in Uzbekistan.
