PSP: is it an emulation master?

I might get one again, I had one for a short time. Want some SNES/Genesis action, but the DPad is kinda shitty on it it seems like. Advice evilbore.

For handhelds, yes.  PC will never stop being the emulation master.

And slim PSP units actually have a good D-Pad.  I would actually say it is probably better than the DS3 one (better roll to it since it isn't analog)

DS3? How does this shit work on platforming games and stuff. I had an old PSP and the DPad is all PS2 style.

I'm so sad that Super Metroid won't run correctly on my DS :( Fully compatible SNES emulation on handhelds would make me cream

DS3 = Dual Shock 3 = same D-Pad sony used on consoles since the PS2

Old PSP had a D-Pad that was stuck in the shell.  Slim PSP has it raised up and it feels quite nice.  Same form factor as it has always been, but a lot less resistance to the push since there is no analog in it.

I had no problems playing anything on the PSP Slim, for comparison sake I had tons of problem with the old PSP D-Pad and no problem with the PS2/3 D-Pad outside of fighting games.  Most emulators on PSP have a variety of options when it comes to screen sizes.  Usually there is 1 to 1 pixel where the image is squared in the middle of the screen, then full where the screen is stretched while still keeping the perspective with black bars on the side, then there is fully stretched where it ruins the actual game perspective, but it fills the entire PSP screen.

Most games are playable on the PSP.  Only problems are PS1 games that require dual analog sticks or heavy usage of all 4 shoulder buttons.

D-Pad on the PSP Slim works just fine. I can play games like Street Fighter and Mega Man on it with no problem. The Phat one on the other hand is practically broken.

What one do you use that doesn't suck?  Most games are so slow they're unplayable.  Thankfully Super Punch-Out!! works.

set it to frameskip auto and you should be good to go.

Yes.

With the exception of TurboGrafx, N64, Saturn, and misc crap systems like the CD-i the emulators work fine. SNES emu just got an update a few months back that added full speed support to most of the games.

MAME ?

:cry

Right here:

It doesn't work so well though. COmpatability is quite limited. You're better off sticking to other emulators like the CPS1/2 and NEOGEO ones.

Rocking. Just looked up GBAtemp.net and it has a bunch of info on DS emultation. Can it roll with the SNES emulation pretty well? Keep hearing about a SNESmulDS emulator for it. Don't know how good it is.

Dual thread post:

I've been reading on PSP and DS's emulation stuff, and found a nice guide on how to get going with PSP hacking:

http://www.blastprocessing.net/?page_id=20

Sounds cool you can hack it to play about anything. It sounds shitty though all the emulation compatibility is changed with the original PSP and the PSP slim, and the more powerful slim ends up not being as supported. The guy makes it sound like Slim versions of emulators are less supported, and in SNES emulation case, shittier. Sounds like a lot of work, but if there's a good SNES emulator out for it, it would be kickass.
