Do people actually ride segways in America?
« on: August 02, 2008, 12:24:40 AM »
I was just reading an article (http://www.japantoday.com/category/business/view/toyota-unveils-next-generation-scooter) about Toyota making a scooter to 'rival' the segway. Is there actually a market for these?

Only time I saw one was at Disney World.  Some Disney Cop (aka the best job ever) was on one just relaxing around on while cruising.

Cops, security guards, etc. use them for patrolling.  Places with large campuses or warehouses will utilize them.  There isn't a big commercial market, though

Yes, this. Security at the King of Prussia Mall near Philadelphia use these to get around. I'd never seen one before I was there last year.

Do cops and security guards give chase on them? I wouldn't be able to stop laughing if I saw that.

Isn't the Segway the end result of that long hyped "It" invention back in the late 90's I believe? I remember for a while a few news places and stuff were hyping, the "It" invention. It was supposed to be the biggest invention since the TV, radio, and computer all combined in one, doubled in ten fold, better than sliced bread too. Never heard much after that, and later heard from someone it turned out to be the Segway.

Yeah, the security guards at Smith Haven Mall ride around on these things. Could be something standardized through all Simon malls.

The Segway ™ gives you the paraplegic perk of cruising around town on two wheels, with the convenience of a healthy spinal cord.

One time a mall cop tried to chase me down in one. He kept leaning too far and almost fell over.
they can't go down escalators or anything, right?

I'd say the Segway has become an acceptable form of laughter.
