It's really not comparable to Die Another Day, it's more comparable to GoldenEye, since its a reboot w/ a new Bond.

saw Bond. Impressd. He is such a good Bond. Very very polite. Did NOT like him saying "I Love you" to the ugly girl thought. Not cool. I think this new bond will do well.

It will surpass die another day worldwide and be #2 to Die Another Day in USA. But Bond is one of the few franchises where world wide totals are more imporant than domestic.

There is almost no way worldwide it wont be more than die another day. It is out-tracking DAD right now worldwide.

If there is any justice in this world, it will beat DAD domestically too. Which I think it will.

For all the hype it got I would have expected more, at least in the US. The movie's preformance is actually reminding me of...King Kong in a sense. Although I'm sure none of you Bond fans would consider this a bomba; neither was Kong *flicks nose*

The highest boxoffice results from the franchise is far from a bomb.

It's only 55 million behind outdoing DAD worldwide. How it is tracking world wide currently shows almost no way where it wont break that barrier at all.

Just look at the Bond box office history. They always do well, but they never have destroyed the domestic box office.

King Kong was hyped by almost every major media outlet to sink Titanic; the amount of press it was generating was dwarfed only by its titular star.  Casino Royale is a complete reboot with a new actor that initially caused quite a divide amongs fans (anyone remember the Clive Owen or bust rhetoric?).  Not even remotely comparable.`

Exactly. That it will be the most successful Bond movie ever despite that is saying something.

Also, Daniel Craig has got to be loving this. After all the bashing he took, most of his haters have promptly turned around, dropped to their knees, and are kissing his ass. As they should be. I always like Craig. I definately wanted Owen more, but I still liked Craig, and after CR, I see they made the right choice. I honestly dont know if Owen has the presence for the role. Hes got the acting chops for sure. But Craig brings both, and in spades.

I was skeptical, but I wasn't going to boycott a potential return to form because of blonde hair or his lack of boyish good looks.  Afterwards, I think Craig is the best Bond in a long, long time.

If 22 and 23 are CR's equals, then I will have no problem in replacing Connery with Craig as my personal favorite Bond.

As I posted on GAF:

The Sun is reporting that Bond 22 will be based off Risico (Fleming short story) and directed again by Martin Campbell.

I would take this with a grain of salt though, because:
- it's way too early for them to have decided this
- from what I understand, The Sun is basically a rag
- there's not much to Risico, and a movie based on it would have to be fleshed out big time
- Campbell has said he doesnt want to do another big movie for a while

Ok:

Full length Bond:
1. Casino Royale
2. Live And Let Die
3. Moonraker
4. Diamonds Are Forever
5. From Russia With Love
6. Dr. No
7. Goldfinger
8. Thunderball
9. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
10. You Only Live Twice
11. The Man With The Golden Gun

Short stories:
1. For Your Eyes Only (Risico is from here, and was the main plot for the For Your Eyes Only movie, another reason why this rumor is garbage)
2. Octapussy

Full length, not written from Bond's perspective, and Bond only pops up as a tertiary character:
1. The Spy Who Loved Me

It should be noted that the only books to get FAITHFUL adaptations so far have been Casino Royale, From Russia With Love, Dr. No, Goldfinger, Thunderball, OHMSS, and Golden Gun. Faithful versions of Live And Let Die, Moonraker, and You Only Live Twice would rock.

Last I heard you jumped off the Mann wagon and hated it. I enjoyed it despite its many flaws, and apparently the Director's Cut is MUCH better. I need to get the DVD soon.

Nah, after buying and rewatching the TC on DVD, I've DEFINITELY warmed to it. I may like it even more than Collateral now. :-*

Wait... you didnt even buy the director's cut? And better than Collateral? Shame on you on both counts, Shakie! I liked the movie lots after my first viewing, and same after my second. But I still think Collateral shits all over it, and I want the DC of Miami Vice to put to the test!

BUT, Im glad you like it now. What exactly changed for you on the second viewing? If I recall, you REALLY didnt like it in theatres.

I never said I hated it when I saw it in theaters, but there were several factors working against the film at the time:

a. It didn't love up to the hype I'd imagined

b. I could barely understand a fuckin word (esp. in Gong Li's scenes, I still need subtitles for her)

c. The transfer looked straight ASS on my local cinema's projector

Yeah, its still no Collateral, on second thought, but then again I can see myself going back and rewatching Vice a lot more than Collateral. Hell, I've watched my Collateral DVD a total two times, and I've already sat through Vice on DVD four times. Its just alot easier to get yourself lost in, I suppose.

Plus, the non-HD transfer is still magnificent. :-*

Oh, and about the DC: I had planned on picking it up, but from what I hear its a toss-up with the TC; not much is expanded on, some musical cues are changed, and the speedboat scene is tacked onto the beginning.

No offense to Mann, but I had more than enough of the Crockett/Gong Li scenes in the TC; unless the new scenes were expanded on the Crockett/Tubbs relationship (which I hear they don't), then no thanks. Plus, if there's one thing I absolutely LOVED about the film even the first time through, its the fact that the audience is dumped right into the club from the very beginning. After watching the new opening on YouTube, all I can say is no thanks -- the speedboats may look nice, but they add close to nothing to the film as a whole.

Im glad youre on the love side now Shakie. As for myself, when I get the DVD, I will get the DC, simply because I want the speedboat chase, and especially for using In The Air Tonight for the final shootout.

If anything, buy the theatrical and rent the DC. I know you want to check those scenes out, but the speedboat chase is just a useless scene and the score used in the TC before the shootout is infitely better than that lame In the Air Tonight cover. :(

Non-genre? To me the film was a straight-up noir, only with definite touches of lightness thrown in for good measure.

Noir? Nah. It was a buddy-flick, just with dark humor. It was basically Self-Aware Lethal Weapon 2005. Which makes sense, given the writer/director.

I dunno about that. There may some darker undercurrents in the movie (especially in the bizarre "slap the old pedo around" bit at the end), but I still can't really classify it as anything but a buddy-flick.

A FUCKING HILARIOUS buddy-flick. "Eight? Who taught you math?"
