I don't drink coffee (or tea or energy drinks for that matter), and I wake up just fine once I'm out of bed. Occasionally I'll get sleepy after lunch if it's boring at work and I'm coming off the metabolic high from lunch... usually if that happens I just get up from my desk or eat some fruit or cookies.
I used to drink a Pepsi/Coke at lunch every day in High School, and I'd notice when I'd start getting a hankering for it before lunch time.
After I stopped during the summer break, I decided not to start again, it was too creepy for me.
If I need energy when driving (which isn't too common) I'll generally just eat some candy/chocolate/fruit and I'm good.
