Have you guys seen the closing ceremony yet? People are posting on GAF about it as though they're only just watching it now, but it was on hours and hours ago in the UK... really nice countdown and closing ceremony.
The handover stuff wasn't so good. The red London bus transforming looked cool, but I hated all the shitty art-school dancing that was going on around it. Jimmy Page, Leona Lewis and David Beckham = meh too. I want Brian May playing God Save the Queen on top of the Olympic Stadium, and an opening ceremony that is fun and over the top. It should depict British people, British history and British Culture, not shitty new-rave inspired bollocks and the shitty 2012 logo. They should ask Muse / Matt Bellamy to compose something that sounds like huge epic win for the opening ceremony.

It should be good though. Where they're building "olympic village" and the new stadium is really going to regenerate a part of London that was badly in need of it. Other venues around the capital and further afield will be getting used well, and provided they go about it right, everyone will get into the spirit of it. Before we all die in 2013 (lol).
One things for sure though... there's no way we can cough up the billions the chinese did and put on a show like that. I doubt we'll see a games like that for many years. I'm glad they delivered... I'm not particularly happy about Tibet or their human rights record (not that I really care either if I'm being honest), but seeing the Chinese vindicate themselves in the face of justified criticism... just winning us all over with great organisation and a great Olympic games... that was still quite satisfying!
