800x600 gaming -- pc gods bless this supplicant with wisdom
« on: August 10, 2008, 07:16:35 PM »
i got a new eee pc (a 20GB, 1.6 ghz atom 901 with a REAL 1024x600 screen) and now i need some game suggestions! the only requirement is that they have an 800x600 mode.

i have installed:

diablo 2 + expansion
quake 3
avernum 5
angband
civ 3

i do NOT want to install:
starcraft (never a huge fan)
bg2, iwd/iwd2 and torment (played through them again in the last couple years)
c&c/ra titles (only really like generals and ra2 these days, and i have ra2 on my main rig)

let the suggestions flow like the rich bounty of your loins, ye true gamers :bow2

console scum go home

i think you'll have a hard time finding a PC game from the last 10 years that doesn't allow 800x600....

Could it run Morrowind?

I am waiting for that Dell one of these small computers.  I just need to dig out all my old PC games to play on it.

SPREADSHEET GAMING PROLE - The Strategy First collection on Steam

http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=posts&id=1728&cc=AU

Space Empires, Disciples, Jagged Alliance, Sacred Gold... all perfect for the EEE PC.

I have the 900 model which is the same but doesn't have the Atom processor, but has the 1gb of ram and the sexy screen.

yes how good is the 900? that screen is pure sex, and you get some decent storage space. plus mine came with a 120gb external hard drive

make sure you get eeectl so you can adjust the fan speed.

going for a decent cross section of low-res PC gaming awesomeness

age of wonders shadow magic
gothic 2 w/ expansion
warlord battlecry 3
children of the nile
painkiller (might be pushing it on the graphics department, if so go for serious same and serious same second encounter)
space rangers 2
jagged alliance 2
wizardry 8 (PM me if you want to borrow my copy or something, it's hard to get)
combat mission: barbarossa to berlin or afrika korps
settlers 10th anniversary or anno 1503

I want to say that the old SSI general games (PG2, Star General, Fantasy General) run at 800x600 as well and would be perfect but I don't have one handy to try. Pretty sure about the other ones  though.

Bob.

That game was ahead of its time.  Home is only now catching up, minus the word-processing.

All these posts and no x-com?  weak.  I'm sure Xcom 3 supports 800x600, the others may be 640x480, surely sub is acceptable right?

There is also Doom 1-2 for windows.

age of empires 2 is still really fun if you're in the mood for an old-school RTS.
