The last time I checked, platforming from the first person perspective has always been highly criticized for not making a lick of sense
well this is why it's getting hype. because it's attempting something previously unproven/untapped.
and that seemed like the logical way of approaching such matters. In a game where forced perspective prevents you from seeing both your feet, the direction you're moving in, and a safe landing for a gap, I hear platforming doesn't work too well.
you can see your feet if you look down, and in this game, many of the moves bring your feet into view. and also, it was a logical direction for most games because most games weren't about the platforming. this game IS ABOUT THE PLATFORMING and doing it in first person is challenging, but more immersive--and if they pull it off, it can be great.
On top of the game having mediocre art
it's probably okay when someone else says it, but bore threw a crybaby fit when i pointed out how fucking lame the enemy designs are. though, i think the environment and main character designs are great.
a nonexistant plot
...? you deliver packages, and of course there'll be a story around that. not surprisingly, they haven't unvieled the entire plot yet.
And I saw a post here claiming it could be this year's Portal, which is absurd. Both the phrase "this year's Portal" and assuming that Mirror's Edge is introducing anything even remotely new to the genre is a huge stretch.
i agree here. comparing a game to portal is just the rage right now.
I'm not baiting, I really want to know why people think, even though platforming in pretty much every FPS hasn't gone by without strict attention thus far, that Mirror's Edge is somehow bringing something new to the table.
if you watch the videos... this game is clearly bringing new things to the table in terms of first person platforming.
also, if someone claims first person platforming can't work--they've obviously not played kz_giantbeanstalk, or any of the other kz_ cs maps.
