I have a hard time with this casting rumor. According to our good friends at Joblo BillyBob Thornton is rumored to be playing Freddy in the upcoming Nightmare on Elm Street remake. I am a huge fan of BillyBob but he is definitely not the guy to play the part of Freddy in my books. I honestly wonder if he would even want this role. Is he hard up for a role? I think of Billy as an actors actor... so this role I hate to see it seems a bit simple and beneath his skills. What do you all think?

We do know that Robert Englund wont be back since Brad Fuller from Platinum Dunes told us as much;

    I think it has to be and I know fans hate to hear that and everyone says you have to put Robert in. He said it too. I don't think he wants to do it and I think that in order to differentiate what we're doing from the other ones, we would need to find someone else to play that role.

Really? I'm all for Englund as Freddie, but at this stage I think it would be really interesting to see what a known actor would do with the character.

I know he's kind of overstayed his hipness at this point, but I'd like to see Johnny Depp chew on scenery in that role.
