I was such a pussy when my wisdom teeth were coming in.  It didn't help that I didn't take painkillers.

I was all worried that I would need to get mine out since they were going against the inside of my cheek, but then I went to the dentist and he was all like "ya, you don't need to do dat shit, man".  So, I guess I don't  need to.

And I need to get my teeth whitened.  I brush like 3 times a day, but my teeth aren't white-white yet.  Dental care is a pain in the ass.

60% of wisdom tooth extractions don't need to be performed. It's just a dental cash cow. My dentist said they could just come in but he DIDNT TELL ME IT WOULD BE LIKE A BABY ALL OVER AGAIN

When my wisdom teeth came in it wasted about $15k and 3+ years of worth of brace work. My bottom teeth are all fucked.

You should have gotten them removed. My surgery was a blast and the painkillers they gave me have helped tremendously. It wasn't bad at all.

Wisdom tooth extraction isn't that expensive, dude.  Even if it may not be necessary, I'd rather take a cheap wisdom tooth hit than roll the dice on them fucking up your whole mouth.  Also, many people can't brush as far back as their wisdom teeth, so even if they don't hurt, they tend to not have very nice lives (from my understanding).

I didn't feel any pain until after I passed out at my kitchen table while sitting on a stool. I slammed my face into the floor after I fell off the stool. That was horrible.

When I had to get that molar extracted the other week, I didn't feel any pain until like late in the second or third day.  At first I thought I didn't need the painkillers, but it just took a while for the pain to hit me.

i finally got mine out earlier this summer.  wasn't too bad.  my jaw was occasionally losing it's sense of feeling, though--was kinda scary because sometimes that can be permanent.  everything's pretty much fine now though.

I don't have my wisdom teeth yet and I'm 22, hah. Lots of my friends had them out in high school.

My mom got hers out later, though. I was young, but old enough to remember her getting them out. She was probably 26 or 27.

If mine start coming through and messing up my other teeth, I'm getting them removed. I only ever had top braces, but all my teeth are very straight and I like having good teeth. I don't want them fucked up.

Wisdom teeth don't come in for everybody. It's like a small evolutionary trait. Some people get them, others don't, since we don't really need them. Similar to muscles in our ears. I think I was reminded by an episode of Heroes.

Wisdom teeth are so dumb. Mine were like sideways so they had to take them out. They had to cut up them up while they were still in and take them out piece by piece. The recovery didn't hurt at all really, but it was such a pain not being able to eat real food. My recovery was pretty painless, but it lasted much longer than normal people. Like 10 days. 10 days of mashed potatos. :(

wouldn't that just make you less evolved?

spoiler (click to show/hide)
edit: assuming you have them but don't need them taken out, of course.

This is my situation.  From reading around, it sounds like wisdom teeth coming in sideways is relatively common.

To GilloD, it will take 400-600 bucks to get them taken care of.  If you are feeling pain, you at least need to get them looked at.  Fuck, I have all sorts of wisdom teeth related problems and I felt no pain when they came in. 400-600 may sound steep, but keep in mind that preventative dentistry is MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH cheaper than getting things fixed after all hell breaks loose.  If you are holding out until you have dental insurance--don't.  Dental insurance is around the board terrible and doesn't cover a whole lot.  Even if you had good dental insurance, chances are you'd be paying for most of your treatments out of pocket anyway.

Yeah, I'm not even sure if I have them, to be honest. I had an x-ray a few years ago that would tell if they were actually in my jaw or not, but I forgot what the dentist said, hah. I don't have those ear muscles though. No wiggling ears for me. [I can't roll my tongue, either.]

wow they screwed you.

My total to get my wisdom teeth removed (on right side of face only, 3 teeth (I had an extra wisdom tooth on the top right!!!) plus anesthetic(spelling?) was around 1100. I only paid 125 of that due to dental. :)

60% of wisdom tooth extractions don't need to be performed. It's just a dental cash cow.

It's odd, but when mine were coming in, my dentist kept insisting how horrible it was going to be, and wanted to take them out pronto. I never bothered, and now they're in, no problem. But every visit, that's the first thing she brings up, and keeps pushing for me to get them pulled so much so that I've started to wonder if it was really just about lining her pockets all along.

It's a serious issue among dentists. I think most dentists justify it with, "Well, even if they come in okay, they're more likely to be a problem than a positive". But they also make good cash on it. If I had dental I'd consider it, but with the ten million other things I could put a 1000 bucks toward, I'll suffer it.

I've only gotten my wisdom teeth on the left side of my mouth (hoping I won't get any on the other side. Some people get less than four, rite?), but I don't think it hurt very much, at least I don't remember it hurting. And I have the pain tolerance of a little girl.

As another example of how shitty dental insurance is, I've already used mine up for the year.  I'm pretty sure the amount I have to pay due to that is 400-500, though I do not have my treatment plan.  As in 400-500 for the whole procedure.

I didn't have to contribute a red cent to have my wisdom teeth pulled. But I did have to pay, in a sense, because my sinuses were fucked up.

Yeah but at least we live in a free country.

To be clear, the surgery was paid for by my private insurance. Canada does not have universal dental care.

By the way, I thought you lived in America. What's all this about you living in a free country.  :P

I just checked my treatment plan, and the cost for getting the wisdom teeth out (note: only 2 right now) is 380 total, and insurance would have covered only 60 of that.

Yeah but at least we live in a free country.
