I'm up to disc 4 in the first season and this is the most wildly fucking inconsistent (quality-wise) show I've ever seen. I won't deny that there's been some fantastic episodes so far, but most of the case of the week plots are just borderline unwatchable. Anyone else feel this way? Though I do really like the Lilly Kane stuff and will keep watching for that.

Someone on GAF said this season is on par with Friday Night Lights S1.. hell no.

I like the first season. As you said, it's really inconsistent. There are some pretty fantastic episodes, but also some really shitty ones. I liked the overall storyline of the season, and it's a hell of a lot better than the rest of the series.

Mostly though, I watched it for Kristen Bell.

Side note: never seen Friday Night Lights. Is it worth it?

Fuck yeah. NBC had a guarantee that they'd give you your $20 back if you didn't love it, so I picked it up based on that. I went in with insanely low expectations and was pretty much blown away.

s2 isn't quite as good (and there's an awful storyline that totally does not belong in the show in the beginning of the season), but the second half of it is great. Can't wait for new episodes.

The first few episodes and the last two episodes of season 2 are terrible.  Most of the middle episodes are still pretty good.  The season's big mystery is distinguished mentally-challenged.  Season 3 is a slight improvement over 2 in most regards, but it's still not season 1 good.

Veronica Mars was clever and fun, but the pace of the main story arc drove me bonkers. I've seen about the first 13 eps of S1.
