I would love to visit the USA, where should I go?
« on: August 15, 2008, 06:42:31 PM »
basically Ive been toying with the idea of a holiday for ages now, and the US looks like an interesting place to visit. What cities would you recommend?

Im really set on New York... place looks amazing

also can you do a shoestring mission across several states easily? Ie catching Greyhound buses staying in cheap motels etc.

Well, if you're from Europe the socialists in San Francisco probably wouldn't bother you too bad. Its a beautiful city. Other than that I'd say DC.

Visit something truly special like the national parks on the west coast. NEw York City smells like ass and is a giant asshole of the world.

Cities? Bah!

If it's you're first time to ever come to America, I'd suggest coming into Dallas, Texas and renting a car there. Then drive west on Highway 380. That will take you all the way to Roswell, New Mexico where you can get your fix of 40-year-old alien conspiracy theories. Head west some more and then go north on Interstate 25. That will take you to Albuquerque, New Mexico. It's a nice enough town, but not a lot there of interest [alternately, you can drive south to Carlsbad, New Mexico and see Carlsbad Caverns, which is one of the most amazing caves in the world]. Head west on Interstate 40 until you get to Flagstaff, Arizona. That puts you close enough to Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon that you can go to each one during a day and then drive back to Flagstaff. You're also not too far from the Rocky Mountains. I'd suggest making your way north-east to Colorado Springs where you can drive up Pike's Peak and attempt entry into the NORAD compound.

And there you go!

Come visit me and Cajole in NY! Then hop on a Greyhound or a train (Amtrak is pretty nice although costly!) to DC, I think they have really cheap buses that go from Chinatown to DC/Baltimore area, but I'm not sure how shitty they are or anything.

I would just fly into San Diego and then hit all the big cities along the West coast. I think it would be the most cost efficient and should give you a good slice of Americana. Although NYC is good to visit in the Fall, it's hella expensive.

As a young lad, I went to Washington D.C., and was pretty impressed. Tourist-wise, the landmarks you've seen your whole life in movies and TV shows don't hold a candle to standing in front of them. Pretty awe-inspiring, actually. This was years ago, mind you, and I'm sure the fine American folks here can give you a dozen reasons why not to go there now.

That said, if it's sex you want, NYC seems to be the Evilbore member hotspot.

west coast is better in summers and winters because of lower humidity.

Yes, this. If you hit the east coast you must hit DC.

Central Coast California. Nice beaches, PotC3 was filmed on one of them. Otherwise stay away from everywhere in California. LA and SF both suck dicks. Hit up Pismo Beach and San Luis Obispo, some nice places.
