I put off listening to it for a long time because I figured it would be more noodly/outtake stuff that wasn't fit to make it into an actual Sonic Youth album, similar to the Ciccone Youth album.  It's pretty good, though.  It might even be less intentionally abrasive than most of SY's work.

I pretty much agree with Juno's opinion on Sonic Youth. And Moore's voice is kind of gross.

And Thurston never ages. Seriously. Holy shit.

Good listen. I can't sleep, so I've been combing the net listening to music, so this fit hte bill nicely.

Whatever.  Thurston's voice is great.  Enjoy agreeing with Juno.

Their albums are just a bunch of noise.

But I'll expand upon her opinion to express what I really think of them...

Their albums are just a jumble of horrible, ear-splitting noise equivalent to nails on a chalkboard and Thurston Moorse sounds like a totally wasted butch lesbian seal.

That's about what I'd expect from someone that doesn't understand noise music.  Feel free to unembarrass yourself if you ever feel the need to get educated, cig.  Also, Thurston isn't the band's only vocalist.

well i guess if you dont get it you dont get. thurston and lee are extremely inventive guitarists using a lot of complex tuning and fretting they have created over the years. i know some guy here said matt bellamy was a guitar "virtuoso" and we all laughed, but sonic youth are the real deal

It's even crazier seeing them live.  When Lee and Thurston go onto an extended jam, it's like they're psychically connected.  The music sounds so bizarre, but you can tell that they each know what the other is doing, and they totally play off it

Girl, I will cut you.

The woman sounds totally drunk, too. I prefer Yeah Yeah Yeah's cover of Diamond Sea over the original, BTW.

Oh, but I do admit that they have some talent as musicians. The guitars were great in Incinerate.

You totally don't get it.  Sonic Youth isn't for you.  I suggest you go for some gay standards like Madonna or Ethel Merman.

They're a band I will never miss when they come to town. I've yet to listen to this Thurston album, but I'll have to check it out.

I've seen them live like 7 or 8 times now.  The only time they really seem to be iffy is when they have to play outdoors, which kind of kills them as being a killer headliner at festivals.  Their sound is just clearly intended and modeled around playing in a closed in area, and that works better for clubs.

They're playing in Brooklyn on a weekend when I'll likely be in NYC, but it's at an outdoor venue.  I was going to go catch them, since they never, ever, ever play in Utah, but maybe I'll skip this show.
