I haven't been following this whole thing, but why would Fox news be defending Georgia?

I haven't been following this whole thing, but why would Fox news be defending Georgia?

A couple of reasons.

1. The media has decided that the story for this debacle is:  Russia big bad wolf, Georgia good and virtuous democracy that is without blame.
2. Fox probably wants this to help McCain, and making any issue nuanced isn't going to help McCain.

can someone summarize what the hell is going on there? all i read on the news [and i will NEVER watch the news, only read it via internet + some raw footage or whatever] is how Russia invades Georgia, says "ok i'll follow ze peacefire" and then bombs Georgia again.

There is a ethnically Russian group in Georgia that has tried to break away from Georgia and join Russia in the past.  The new Georgian president has made it on of his top priorities to get this region under control.  Russia has peacekeeping troops in this area.  Georgia attacks these people Russia then invades claiming they have right to protect their troops.  Russia goes further into Georgia than just this region and America cries oil foul.  Peace treaty is signed.  Russia starts withdrawing but America is shocked that you just can't leave a country you've invaded in the blink of an eye.

They have started withdrawing.  "some" troops moving forward and staying in key positions isn't saying much.   The conflict is over.  Meaning no large scale fighting.  The Russians know they can't do anymore but they're going to stay in there for as long as they can, so they can set things up to be in their favor, just like any other country would do.
