Superman II teaches us about life, dating, and awesomeness
« on: November 20, 2006, 11:14:15 AM »
This is for ZomBz and Phoenix Dark and every other sad person who can't get a girl/can't control a girl.

Watch Superman II.

While the movie has some flaws, it's really an allegory for how relationships work between men and women.

To wit:

Lois Lane represents women.  She's kinda cute, but pretty ditzy.  She gets so caught up in being right that she'll jump into Niagara Falls just to win an argument.  She LOVES SUPERMAN, who is too good for her and is unattainable.

Superman represents the single male.  He's strong, he's capable, he's totally self sufficient, and without him, the world would be ruined by super crimimals because the police would be too busy rescuing kids and Lois Lane from Niagara Falls.

Superman makes a big mistake though:  he falls for Lois' bullshit.  He doesn't realize she's an idiot, instead he thinks she is cute.  So he gives up his powers to be with her.

THIS IS ALLEGORY FOR MARRIAGE.  Superman loses his power and becomes a nobody.  Lois now calls the shots.  You can imagine that in the drive back from the Arctic, Lois was telling Superman how she wanted to "liven up" the fortress, re-paint the walls, get a nice duvet and some throw pillows...

Trouble in paradise happens at the cafe when Superman gets his ass kicked by the truck driver.  Lois is all like "I wish you were the man I fell in love with you fucking loser".

So Superman has to trek back to the Arctic to get his powers back.  Which he does.  And of course, now Lois loves him again.

The moral?

Don't give up your power for a woman.  It's a big mistake.

I agree so much.

This has a lot to do with how people in a relationship ask for the other person to change and then when they change they complain about how that person isn't the same anymore.  I hate relationships

Well, Spider-Man teaches us stuff too.  I just haven't figured out what yet.

It also teaches me that still frames can make decent looking actresses seem half distinguished mentally-challenged at any given moment.
