I've never done this before (or used a credit card at all), and I'm sure I'll fuck it up somehow. Anyone have any tips for life in debtors' prison?

what are you trying to do exactly? build credit or something? you should at least not try to carry a balance from month to month.

If it's over $1200, there is a good chance they will block it and contact you to see if it's legit. So in some cases, you can get a second chance.

THe sooner you pay it off, the more money you save. If you pay off your purchase within a month, you won't incur interest.

It is done. I just blew $1000 of money I don't have on registration fees for a dumb conference on programming languages, all for the sake of feeding my sick need to adopt a ludicrous academic smarty man pose that fools no one but myself. Oh well, at least I'll get to see Canada before the effect of Too Human's failure really kicks in.

Curiously, my credit card was declined the first time I hit the "register" button, then accepted the second time. Did I just spend $2000? or have I just been Trojan'd? if the latter, which one of you is responsible?

Call your CC company, they'll be happy to check your charges for you.
