Wait so this is a real Suikoden game? Shame that it's on the DS (and using it's wonderful 3d capabilities). Well at least it's good to know there's another Suikoden game coming.

Characters

The main character has no name, but apparently will be voiced by Takashi Hiroshi. It is unknown if this will just be in 'grunts' a la Lazlo and Freyjadour in Suikoden IV and V or like Kyril in Suikoden Tactics.

A shark race may be introduced into the series if one of the images has been interpreted correctly. All together now; grrrroan!

Gameplay

The gameplay takes advantage of the Nintendo DS's touch screen. The top screen shows character status information. HP, MP, status effects and the like. Meanwhile, you can use the DS stylus to enter commands in battle on the touch screen.

Other observations include: The battle system appears to be a four person battle system, like Suikoden IV. As such, it is a traditional RPG, not a strategy RPG like Suikoden Tactics.

Looking at the status screen it appears traditional Suikoden MP is OUT, to be replaced with standard MP numbers comparable to HP. Like in Final Fantasy VII, for example (and 90% of every RPG ever).

The character art and designs in general don't look nearly up to series standards but I don't really mind because they're not bad either. Still a drastic change in quality. I can tell they've hired a new character designer.

On the other hand...the backgrounds are gorgeous. Holy crap.

Apparently the game begins with the 108 heroes engaged in their final battle with the villain, and all the heroes being taken down except for four. This game's hero is not one of them, and his quest involves reassembling the 108, as opposed to discovering them.

OMFG

Especially duckroll, who wants to be revered by his e-peers as the goddamn weaboo king.

Don't you need to be white to be a weeaboo? I am pretty sure Duckroll is Asian. Well, I always picture him as a tiny hyperactive Asian kid regardless.

Also I woke up to an IM from Himu about Suikoden DS, was really excited to come into work and see if it was all 2D, it sucks it's got all 3D battles and polygonal characters :(

Nice, well I haven't seen the scans yet... I'm just a staunch 2D gaming fanboy. Still it's good that there's another Suikoden coming. I only played and beat 2 for the first time a few months ago and I was extremely impressed.

KENKA BANCHOU 3!!!

The first two were on the PS2. They're adventure/beat-em-ups with Japanese high school gangs.

The PS2 games have had budget re-releases in Japan if you're curious. They're fun, but if you don't know some Japanese, there is this tutorial at the beginning of KB1 that could be a total game breaker.  :lol

So apparently River City Ransom Online was also shown in the new Famitsu. It's PC only so far so here's hoping for some kind of overseas release or translation patch.
