Renting this tomorrow. The loot stuff just sounds so amazing. I don't even care about the story now.

Still, it matters not, for now i have Too Human and tonight i shall drunkenly try to play it whilst stuffing my face with a full family size pizza and consume an inappropriate amount of Black Nikka.

What toppings?  Asian pizzas are so wacky!

Is Berzerker easy to play as? I think TVC is playing a Zerker

I beat the first level, including boss and all arenas, without dying.  I came close to dying on the boss though.  The Ice Forest, no idea how far in I was when I stopped yesterday, but I died a LOT.  The enemies that shoot shit in that level make mincemeat out of me.  Dead in 2 hits, usually.

The Ice Forest is really frustrating me.  I can tolerate repeatedly dying, but the FUCKING DEATH ANIMATION.  Why not give me the option to skip it, but have me pay a fee instead?  Like 10% of my credits?

Ok i'm ashamed to say this.

But i'm really enjoying this game. I had not problems with controls or anything, and the story has been interesting. The menu for the armors and stuff is a bit cluttered i think but i haven't mess with it too much.

How do i equip the helmet anyway? It says it's already equiped but my character has no helmet on. Whats up with that?

Oooh...

Also i think the graphics are pretty good. Animation wise, it's better during gameplay than it is during cut scenes. And they fixed a bit of how the combat looks, now when you hit someone it shakes the screen a bit or something, so it feels much better than it looked in earlier videos.

Have you done much co-op?

Somehow I got the Serve 'Em Up Achievement in single player.

Went on last night and got the troll team-kill achievement without even trying.  There's enough trolls in The Ice Forest that it's gonna happen sooner or later.

What is the story like?

To get this out of the way:  it was kind of distinguished mentally-challenged for SK to try to cram an actual story into this game.  There's like 15 minutes of boredom after the first dungeon as you walk around Aesir and watch cutscenes.  This sort of storytelling really doesn't fly with games that are basically twitchers.

But judging the story on its own, even if it were, well, wedded to gameplay that supported it, it's not bad.  It's not nifty like Eternal Darkness or Legacy of Kain, but it has its charms.  There are some howlers of dialogue, although most of the really bad lines seem to be in the incidental in-game dialogue.  One of the problems is that the game dumps you right in without doing any setup or exposition so you know what's going on.  If you've read a bit of Norse mythology, you'll catch up quickly.  The voice acting is good around the board.  Silicon Knights seems to always do well with voice acting.  Well, again, some of the incidental stuff is iffy, but nothing too terrible.

But no, so far it doesn't live up to Dyack's lofty noodlings on narrative or anything like that.

For all the yapping that Silicon Nights did about the story, it's kind of surprising that the game has probably less than an hour's worth of cutscenes.  It seems painfully clear that at some point, they were forced to cut a lot of content out of this game just to get it out the door.  It probably happened when they realized UE3 wasn't going to work.  What actually wound up in the final product doesn't seem too substantial, and as you said a lot of it doesn't make any sense if you don't already know the Norse legends.  Why did Baldur end up in Helheim instead of Valhalla?  What is this bizarre demon that Hel has summoned into the world?  What's Loki's goal/purpose/motivation?

Also, what's with stat-caps in this game?  I tried to stack a lot of Strength for damage, but at some point it tells you you are capped.  I thought the whole point of these dungeon hacks was min-maxing to the extremes.  With such low caps it seems like they are forcing you towards making a balanced character.  Did Diablo and Titan Quest have caps?  WoW has unwritten caps on certain stats, but you can't reach them unless you are maximum level and sporting some insane gear.  Too Human is at least nice enough to tell you its caps, but I started hitting them before I even finished my first playthrough.

Where does it tell you that you are hitting caps?  Is it in the stats screen or does it tell you when you are equipping items?

If you run over an item in the inventory menu and it has a stat that will put you over the cap, the modifier "Capped" will appear in the description.  For example, "+25% Strength (Capped)".  If you are going over Runes, I think it actually tells you where you are at Stat-wise and where the cap is.  It's not that hard to hit the caps -- just try stacking runes of a single specific stat and you can probably do it.

EDIT:  My favorite piece of awful incidental dialogue is from Thor, in World Serpent -- something to the extent of "You'd best be saving your best for later - because that was pathetic!"  Did they really think using the word "best" twice in the same sentence would sound anything but awkward?

I don't think that would be wise.  The spider and wolf abilities seem to have lengthy recharge times, so it's nice to have the interface up there to know when they are ready.

Wow.

I bet this game was supposed to be shorter than it is. The ICe Forest was a neverending wave of repetitive battles. Jesus Christ, at least throw some curve balls at us from time to time SK.

There aren't events, it's always the same battle.

So, they have you doing more of that stuff from the demo where you walk around and stand on elevators? Does anyone know if that stuff gets removed in co-op?

I almost feel like renting this game just to play co-op or something.

It appears as a wolf icon on the top right half of the ammo meter

I'm in the last dungeon, man this game is too repetitive.

There's a good game here samewhere, but there's so many bad flaws. Too bad, i'm trying to get strenght in order to make it to the end, the game is making it hard though.

And story wise, a mess.
