So I woke up today to not just one, but two new spreadsheet gaming annoucements that put me into bonertown before breakfast:

Anno 1404

Quote
Leipzig, GERMANY – August XX, 2008 – Today Ubisoft announced that it will develop ANN0 1404™, the highly anticipated sequel in the award-winning building-strategy ANNO brand. Designed for the PC, ANNO 1404™ is scheduled for release worldwide in March 2009.

Set in the Orient, ANNO 1404™ offers a richness of features never before seen, bringing the ANNO™ series to a new level. Exploring a strange and fascinating island world in the utmost East, players will get to know the culture and technology of the ancient Orient while learning the tricks of local trade, diplomacy and economy in order to build their own metropolis.

New customizable elements, dozens of embellishing objects and bigger islands and worlds will provide players with endless opportunities to express their creative vision, making all metropolises look truly unique. A new intuitive interface, as well as a motivating, fully modifiable sandbox mode will make it easy and enjoyable for everyone to play.

ANNO™ is one of the most successful strategy brands with over five million units sold worldwide to date.

Thank you Europe for having the taste that stupid merkin gamers don't.

game looks absurdly good for a strategy game and I love the color palette decisions they have made.

The other, even bigger news is the new Paradox Interactive game, Hearts of Iron 3. HoI2 is probably my favorite grand strategy wargame ever, so hearing that Paradox is revisting the franchise is really great.

A good conference for spreadsheet gaming-already have two top-tier 2009 releases in the pipe and it's not even September 2008 yet.

Anno is that kind of game where you notice after a while that you forgot to take dump just a few hours earlier because you are that absorbed into the game...
