Most of those games are ports, suck, are $10 dlc diversions, or are Mario Kart relisted

:gloomy

SSBB, Mario Kart, and Boom Blox for 6 months

Oh or We Love Golf, too bad HSG5 and Open Tee 2 are prolly better

I had boom blox in may, blast works in june, and we love golf/order up! in July. Theyre all fun. And please dont knock toki tori for being dlc. Its awesomesauce. PES was good shit too.

And yes most of the games I listed are mediocre, but nevertheless I wanted to try it out. For instance, I liked the gameplay setup for battle of the bands, but the waggle controls themselves were exhausting. Id like to see the concept revisted.

Three years on and we're still left with half-realized game concepts, where's the beef?

If even Wii's most forgiving fans are forced to admit that Wii barely has a use outside of gimmicks and rentals, how can you be shocked by the reception it gets from others?

I've turned on my Wii like 3 times since May, shit's lame. And I was considered an apologist up through holiday 2007.

Of course, outside of Nintendo,  developers still havent come to grips with the system entirely. Look at the quality of Galaxy. Compare to anything third party. Its certainly possible to do a competent wii game but most developers are personally invested in the hd platforms succeeding. But then Boom Blox and Order Up and Blast Works comes along and suddenly everything is starting to gel.  Samba and Sim City next month too.  The games fit the system perfectly and show that despite Nintendo scaling back, other small developers are coming to terms with what works on the system.

Im not shocked. Said whining is based on a jehova's complex.  They live their lives expecting someone else to entertain them with a new fix every month. Im not saying the system is better than another. For someone who wants 1-2 high profile releases every month, the xbox is an astronomicaly better choice. But as a game machine, the wii suits me.  But thats because I dont constantly need novelty. I just replay games that I like.

If I didn't already own all of those Humongous Entertainement games on my PC I would have bought them all Day 1.

How much are they anyway?

Whatever, I'll bet you bitches didn't even buy Blast Works and other innovative titles, complain about the lack of software and then don't buy the niche but quality titles that do get released.

Anyone who says PES was just a "port" obviously hasn't played it.  PES for Wii is the best Winning Eleven game in years, the control scheme is absolutely fantastic and it plays a hell of a lot better than the PS360 versions.

I still say that the Wii is like the DS, first couple of years are rough but once the big titles come, it'll be more consistent.  It's probably going to be led by Japanese support for awhile, and I think that we'll get a lot of announcements at TGS this year.

I don't see why everyone is selling their Wii like they'll lose street cred if they still have it.  If you need the money, fine, but it's not like owning a Wii is going to make your gaming experience worse or something.  You'll all be buying them again once Mad World and other titles come out anyway.

If TGS comes and goes without any big Wii announcements, then I'd start to be concerned.

Welcome to Mario Kart; the only racing game where being in last place is better than being in first.

What really disappoints me with the Wii is the lack of RPGs.. you'd think the most successful home console in Japan (hell, the world), with a low barrier of entry for development, would be overflowing with them. But, there's not really much in the way of traditional RPG releases, either released or in the pipeline. Thank god I own a DS and a 360.

Mario Kart was a big disappointment... especially after the awesome DS game (my favorite in the series). It went overboard on the gimmicky/stupid items. The thunder, the lakitu, the blue shell (the only shit item in the DS game), the POW, and most importantly the Bullet Bill.

Anybody here ever play Baroque? Is it any good? My friend bought it for me for my bday but I haven't opened it yet.

RPGs are supposed to be pretty expensive to develop, though. Or so I hear.

Well, there is Opoona.

I heard it was good, but I only bought it as a game for if I ever break my arm.  Last time I did, I ended up playing arcade flight sims on my PC.

RPGs aren't exactly the easiest genre to make, but at the frequency at which they appear at PS2 and DS, I don't think that's the issue with the Wii.  They do take some lead-in time though.  I think that we'll be seeing more of them as time goes by, already we have Symphonia 2 coming, Crystal Bearers looks really nice, and there's the new Rune Factory and and that RPG that just got announced this week.  There's probably some other stuff that I'm missing, but once the RPGs come and sell decently I think that the Wii will follow the DS with lots of 'em.  Hell, the first few DS years was hurtin for an RPG too, I remember having to play games like Deep Labyrinth and Tao's adventure to get my fix, but now we're swimming in them.  Wasn't FF3 the first real "big" RPG for the system?

The Fire Emblem Wii game is really good, a shame that most people didn't take notice of it.  The Chocobo Dungeon is also better than one might expect, and I liked Baroque.

gimme a hard date for ketsui and i'll sell my wii to fund a japanese 360 -- its shooters will soon outnumber worthwhile wii games, to say nothing of the qualitiative difference between wii barrel scrapings and a ketsui or a raiden fighters

DS had great games coming out consistently by the end of its first full year ont he market, and it got even better in the following year. Wii's first year had tons of great titles and then there were no more big budget AAA titles again.

Mario Kart Wii's biggest flaws, besides the track design, is the CPU cheapness.  If you think 100cc is cheap, wait until you do Extra.  Getting hit with dozens of blue shells is not good gameplay.

The Fire Emblem Wii game is really good, a shame that most people didn't take notice of it.  The Chocobo Dungeon is also better than one might expect, and I liked Baroque.

Exactly.  Chocobo Dungeons was dismissed as a game not worth your time on the PlayStation but now that it is on Wii, it is now considered acceptable.

it'll be fun in multiplayer when my nongaming or casual gaming friends come over, but yeah after 50cc it is fuck frustrating with all the cheap shots and last-second race-stealing

this is probably the only mario kart game i will ever buy, do you really need more than one

Mario Kart DS I'd say.  MKDS is still the best one in the series.

The shitty thing about multiplayer is that there are no cup races.  You just pick four tracks.  I suppose you can select a single cup for your four races but this is even a feature Super Mario Kart had but is lacking in the Wii version.

It is a solid 7 game.

I just remembered something that sucks about the Wii, but I've never seen it mentioned by any media blogs or sites. Virtual console games are glitchy as hell. I have SMB3 and there is fuzziness around one of the edges of the screen at all times. And there are random interferences in the picture quality as well.

You think so?  Besides AWDS and Castlevania, I really wasn't feeling much of the DS library at first.  Yea, we had quirky games like Feel the Magic and Kirby Canvas Curse, but overall there were more misses than hits and it took a long time for the stream of constant quality software to come out.  Developers were trying to force touch screen and other nonsense, similar to how they tried to do it with the Wii in the first year, but they seem to slowly be finding better ways around that.  I see the parallels and am hoping that the trend will continue with the Wii.

Exactly.  Chocobo Dungeons was dismissed as a game not worth your time on the PlayStation but now that it is on Wii, it is now considered acceptable.

Never played the PSX or Wii one, series doesn't interest me.  Regardless, from what people have said, it's a pretty decent roguelike game and better than you might think from the series.  Has anyone here played it to comment otherwise?  Just because the PSX games weren't good (was that even the case?), doesn't mean that the Wii version automatically would be just as bad.  I enjoyed Baroque so maybe I'd like that kind of game more, obviously it isn't for everyone.  Either way, FE is still an excellent game and tends to be overlooked.

What itches me as a Wii only gamer is, that the used software prices are so steep here in Germany.
You can get most of the older system sellers on PS360 for around 20 to 25 Euros, some new Platinum ones for even 30 Euros.

Wii games rarely get below 30 Euros used here, even in Gamestop and the like.

Zack and Wiki is even still fullprice here... And used price is around 35...
