The FOOBal of Life: FOOB BEGINS ANEW
« on: August 24, 2008, 04:49:57 AM »
So on September first, FOOB goes back in time like 30 years, an event I have dubbed the FOOB bang.  There are 7 days before it is all over.  7 days.  I have taken this opportuinity to make a new thread to commemorate the End of FOOB, probably the most important even in Canadian history.

Day 1:  The Marriage of Liz and Blanthony

The wedding happened today.  Lynn didn't even try to wedge a lame pun in here.  The irony here is, of course, that amongst all the ceremony and the talk of faithfulness and toughness of marriage, FOOB only now exists because Lynn's husband got busted riding her assistant's slip and slide.

What do I see happening over the next 7 days?  Well, originally, Lynn indicated that the strip would end with the wedding.  We still have 7 days of new strips though, which means she still hasn't played her trump.  I think we will see the long overdue death of Grandpa Jim, since we all know the comic is basically shameless.

As much as I make fun of this comic the whole going back in time thing really sucks. People grew up with these characters growing with them, and to have it stop and go back like this is really a bummer.

Yeah but where else can you really go?  It isn't a shotgun wedding so it would take a while for the daughter to get pregnant.  That would take 1-2 years of inane strips (again...) before you got to that point.

This is Lynn's legacy and I can imagine she would like to patch up a few weak points to solidify her work.

Wishes:
*Marry bland divorced man after being forced into it by family
*Be married by a shapeshifter who can grow mustaches between panels, can assume the shape of Walter Cronkite and Waldorf from the Muppets
*Ignore absence of grandfather as he lies dying, even though he's the reason you're having the wedding that day

It's not really; it comes from this one comic where the creator just completely made up a slang term. "Foob."

At this point, I don't see how they can't NOT kill him.  I mean, to what other purpose could this serve?  The series needs a big death, but I wonder if the timing in regards to the wedding makes it actually feasible.

I'm laughing even though my grandfather was reduced to one word at the end...or rather two...GO TOGETHER!!!!

Of course, he finally died, but it was like 8 years of 'Go Together' and it didn't happen nice and neat after a wedding.  Miss ya grandpa..

I'm beginning to doubt they are going to kill of Grandpa Jim.  I mean, at this point, the build is too obvious.  Not that Lynn is a master of subtlety, but I just think she is going to go with a happy fairy tale ending than something awesome and death-filled.

It's going to be great if she turns this whole thing on its head by having the newly married couple get killed in a car accident on their way to the reception.

The lesson here is that without assisted suicide, old people linger way past their prime, as exemplified in this very cartoon strip.

Old people do not die on your timetable, they die on theirs.  He has already lingered to the wedding, he's not going to just go quickly so they can get on with their honeymoon and lives.

But we need some ending event!  What better than a funeral!

At this point, I think we are just going to get a sappy wedding reception.

I agree but at this point it's so predictable.  Is the dog still alive?  They should kill the dog, it would have a bigger emotional payoff.

When is the last strip?  Tomorrow or Sunday?

I'm calling it - On the final strip, it will feature the reception as Liz and Anthony dance with Elly saying something inane.  Grandpa Jim will at least be mentioned on the strip, either dead, or still in his bed.

elly continues to gripe about menopause
elizabeth and anthony have a boring and un-noteworthy marriage with 2.5 children

i dunno what you guys were expecting

she clearly wanted to give her comic characters the happy ending she didn't get

that's pretty sad, hope she gets to find some measure of happiness before she dies, watching someone break down in sequential art form was pretty depressing

she seems like an okay lady to me, all she ever did was write and draw a bland comic strip which never harmed anyone

but then again i am not a sour little internet shithead wanting to sneer at and piss all over everything i see, so what do i know
