Hi everyone. Hows your day?

I'm looking for a general and gaming laptop. I name it so because I want to make clear that I don't want to overskimp on the CPU, because the primary function of this laptop is miscellaneous CPU-using stuff, and gaming is a [close] second function. Ok so...
- budget:
$1000-ish- 15-17" screen, with 800 or 900 vertical resolution.
- mostly will stay at the desk, but may have rare instance of taking it somewhere....battery life not important.
1.5 hour is GREAT however.
- Must
have 3xxx Radeon or 8xxx GeForce card. Don't want any higher since I want to keep the costs down. I would REALLLY love a 8800 GT/ GTS/ GTX in there.
- CPU:
C2D 2 Ghz 667 Mhz FSB or better.
- i am in Canada. Yes, bring on the jokes...
- RAM: 3 GB. Any less is not good. And I will use 32bit Vista because of compatibility, and to reduce costs, I won't go 4 GB. DOnt really need it, so....
- HDD: 200 to 300GB-ish.
Is 7200 rpm performance on laptops recommendable, given the space/price vs. drive speed trade off?- what sort of gaming?
midrange gaming...playing most modern games at medium settings.
Most of the 'current games' should be at medium settings or better: TF2, Red Alert 3, Starcraft 2, Bioshock, SIns of SOlar Empire.
I want to play Crysis at 1200x800 at Med/High settings...if possible.
Btw, I know mobile Intel CPU > mobile AMD CPU....but
how do mobile Nvidia vs mobile ATI stack up?Oh, and I'm gonna download and instal Ubuntu with this laptop...for my first Linux experience EVER!! So I'm gonna partition the hard drive, or use Wubi.
Any advice on that ?
Yes I am aware of the Gateway P-6860 and Gateway P-171XL. The latter is too expensive, and the former has too weak CPU and is off limits...because Gateway or any of the retailers are too fucktwat stupid to make it available for Canadians. NCIX is negotiating for this but hey, apparently talks are delayed for some odd reason [supplies?]. Fuck this shit.
